Hi guys, just wonder how many of you do that & if so what are the benefits & cons?

I'm looking @ classics & about to buy a '70s 911 from Spain. Would like to keep it with Spanish plate but parked in UK & was told that the cars from EU do not need the annual MOT? What's the issues with road tax & insurance or any other things?

And if feasible, I might look out for more LHD classics.

Cars will clock less than 3000miles a year. Thanks!

You cannot wriggle out of an MOT or road tax just because the car is foreign

Car must be legal in its state of registration so each year you would need to ship it back to Spain for the local test plus pay the tax or re-register in UK (where the tax is low or zero anyway)

Insurance could be complex too ie non-Uk registered car kept in UK for non-UK resident

From memory you can keep an EU in the UK for up to 6 months before you need to re-register it in the UK.

An interning point for consideration is that pre 1972 cars are classed as classic with regards to tax ( road fund license), and you will receive free Tax, and on such a car you would also get classic car insurance which would be milage restricted but I would imagine this will all just sway in your favor.

So unless I'm mistaken I think it would be cheaper (and less hassle for yourself ), than to leave it on Spanish plates, but try and get a pre 72 if you haven't yet bought it.
