Whilst on Holiday, to keep my sanity i read Keith Richards Biography. One thing that did suprise me ( the amount of drugs and alcohol he consumed throughout the years did'nt) was the fact that when he moved to Montreux in Switzerland back in August 1972 he acquired a 'Bright yellow Dino' which i take was a 246. he subsequently moved back to the UK and brought the car with him. Whether it was LHD or RHD i know not. Anybody know anymore?
BTW here is a photo of something i bumped into on a roundabout whilst on holiday.
    Guess where i was?

In the mid 1980's I borrowed, on SOR from their management, a Dino belonging to Keith Richards. It was a silver US car with A/C and was not in great shape. My client did not buy it, so it went back. I am certain it did get sold.

Sadly in the days before chassis numbers were recorded and pictures taken, so can not be of any more use.

With further investigation I now know it was 03354 and likely had retro US side lights, and possibly even retro A/C. Could be the same car with a colour change !

By coincidence, I was watching a DVD lat night on Chuck Berry (Hail, Hail, Rock & Roll), which was produced by Keith Richards. This is the remastered 1986 film, but with several new "bonus" features, including a film on the rehearsal, which by itself is worth the price of the DVD. The talent of Keith Richards (and Eric Clapton) is staggering, and of course the pianist Johnnie Johnson was incredible - my wife says she will now practice her piano eight hours a day. She was so impressed.

What became apparent o me though, on seeing the film again after many years, is the care and organization that Keith Richards put into his work, amd also his admiration and (in spite pf Chuck Berry being what he is - not an easy person) love for Chuck Berry the musician.

I will tell my wife he had a Dino and will get back to my feeble efforts on my Stratocaster.

I've seen that documentary a few times over the years and what keeps sticking with me is how Keith looked up to Chuck as his father almost and how Chuck wanted no part of it. You think of Keith as this rock n' roll bad boy and to watch him in that movie he looks like a kid trying hard to impress his dad.

Ended up respecting Chuck for the way he carried his own guitar and didn't travel with a band but instead had them waiting for them in whatever town he was in. Kept it lean and mean where you'd expect the father of Rock n' roll to have a big entourage.

I remember reading an old copy of Classic & Sportscar on another car of Keith Richards, where it was mentioned that he did not have a driving licence. True or hoax???

As a Stones fanatic I will say that Keith gets a bad rap, albeit well deserved about his partying, He is a pro all the way. And he is as gracious as they get to his fans. Except the guy that ran on the stage in 81' and he tried to decapitate him with his guitar.

And he is still on the road. Amazing. Would have been fun to see him drive the Ferrari in the old days!!!
