Cool. Please post details of the installation steps and any issues. Also, why did you choose that particular model? Did you look at the new OEM Ferrari version? Its a relabeled off-the-shelf unit with Ferrari branding. But nonetheless tempting to be able to say everything is "original Ferrari". Did you do anything with the speakers or subwoofer?
don't have any pics of installation - I didn't do it. my audio guy said do a kenwood. I said ok. I asked my audio guy about the clarion (Ferrari), he said do kenwood. clarion is clarion - not Ferrari. bose is bose - not Ferrari. I replaced all the oem speakers. don't know what he used or what I paid.
yeh im happy with it. im def not a stereophile but its as close as to 2014 ur gonna get. I have the park distance alert so atleast now when it beeps I can see the rear with the camera. I asked my guy if we can get the unit to flip open when I hit R for reverse. that being said when I start the car the screen flips out and I really have no desire to close it...
What model of Kenwood is that? Did you have to find a discontinued unit? I looked on Cruchfield and they don't have any Kenwood fold out screen single DIN units, only double DIN with fixed display. Then I checked the Kenwood website and found the same thing. No fold out displays. Looks like there are very few fold out screen models these days. There used to be many but I guess the market has moved on. The Clarion NZ503 is the only decent fold-out screen unit for sale on Cruchfield right now. I think this is the exact unit used for the relabeled Ferrari OEM. Maybe that explains why! None of the tier one manufacturers plan to continue making fold old display receivers.
its kenwood kvt-516 Amazon.com: Buying Choices: Kenwood Kvt-516 7-Inch In-Dash Navigation Ready DVD Receiver im sure the clarion will work just fine - and I think in the other post someone said its 500 bucks if u don't care about it saying Ferrari
Yes, that is a model from a few years ago. Sometime 2011-2012 based on when the reviews were written. It doesn't have built-in bluetooth or HD radio which is unfortunate. I think even the nav may be a separate module external to the receiver. Did you get all the add-on modules? The Clarion is far from perfect. Probably not very high end from an audio quality perspective. 3 band eq. hmmm. I may have to reconsider my priorities based on use of the 430 since its not my main commute or road-trip vehicle. Priorities: (1) looks good in 430, ie blends with the dash (2) good quality audio (3) music streaming over bluetooth from iphone or android using local phone files or Pandora. Good app integration on head unit would be nice (show song names, cover photos, play/pause/skip buttons, etc). (4) USB port for attachment of memory stick, solid state drive, or phone and good display and menus to use a large music repository with many albums and songs I guess I don't really need to watch DVDs or even have a nav. So the motorized large screen is probably not a good idea for me, even though its hard for me to bypass a tech feature. And I don't need a hands-free kit or steering wheel controls. Since I don't want to make any mods to the car hence installing the mics and buttons doesn't really work. I may end up with a high end feature rich single DIN unit. But your install definitely tempts me!
here is what I have on the main menu - in addition it also has the rear camera Image Unavailable, Please Login
Your installer must have also installed the various separate modules that were required in that generation of receivers. HDRadio is the digital radio standard in the USA, ie free over-the-air broadcast in typical FM radio bands but digitally encoded instead of analog. Many stations broadcast an HDRadio signal, or multiple channels of programming. Many more stations can be fit into much less bandwidth using HDRadio compared to traditional FM analog radio which is very wasteful of spectrum. Kenwood probably makes an HDRadio module for your unit as well. If not listed on the menu screen, the installer may have not included that unit.
The Ferrari infotainment unit (aka Clarion) comes with a new faceplate that incorporates the window buttons for a more integrated look. Having said that you pay for the privilege -- and the Ferrari logo and splash screen. Alan
Looked very hard at the Ferrari (Clarion unit) as an upgrade, dealer dropped it into my car to show me, had him remove it straight away - the LED lights don't even match. In the 360 the Ferrari faceplate does a good job, looks integrated. In a 430 the Ferrari faceplate looks bolted on, extends out and doesn't match properly. Having looked at all the options the conclusion was that in a 430 the Kenwood unit is a superior fit due to the way the screen extends and retracts.
+1 Ferrari are apparently rethinking the 430 faceplate after poor feedback - Clarion unit faceplate makes it look very aftermarket.
The OP's Kenwood unit is the EXACT same unit I have in my 360. I love it - makes a great car even more enjoyable. My favorite functions of this Kenwood unit are: backup camera, iPod interface, bluetooth phone, and navigation. It is capable of MORE functions, but these are the ones I interact with most regularly, and have been quite happy.
How much flow from the vents is blocked by the display, 50%? Does the display move when the fan blower is on high? Thanks for your input.
Not that much of the flow from the air vents is blocked. To tell you the honest truth, I generally keep my HVAC system switched "off" when I'm driving my 360. Does the fan blower move the display screen? Hell no. The fan isn't all that powerful man!
Does the fan blower move the display screen? Hell no. The fan isn't all that powerful man![/QUOTE] Haha, yep so true, silly question. From what I gather, only the "Ferrari" version is plug and play, perfect for DIY, while the Kenwood and Clarion are not. Correct?
it does come w a faceplate, just a very aftermarket-afterthought looking one. the plate juts out by a good inch, then the clarion unit itself juts out of that faceplate by another 3/4 of an inch...
Also considering both units for my 360. Just to be clear - is the consensus that the Ferrari/Clarion unit looks clean/integrated in the 360 but NOT in the 430? Or does it look "aftermarket" in both?
The NZ503, whether Ferrari or regular Clarion, does not have HD radio either! It was an option but Clarion does not sell, nor plan on selling, the separate module required to receive HD signal..
I think people are making to big a deal about how much it sticks out....What ever you put, if you want a screen, then its got to clear the vents, which stick out about 1.5 inches or so....unless you mount it where it angles downward when open, which would look funny........Here is the Ferrari Brand....I've gotten used to it and the Window switches are closer to reach .......I asked my wife, a independent judge, what she thought.....She said, "What are talking about...It looks just Fine!!!....I told her of the concern with some, that they think it sticks out to much.....she looked at me Funny and Said,..."Geezus, you Ferrari guys are weird about stuff like that.... "If it would have come from the factory like that, Y'all would be just fine with it, What's Wrong with y'all? " .... So...thats the official opinion....Get what you like, it doesn't really matter that much in the Grand Scheme of things.......I got Ferrari because I like the Ferrari Sticker on it and when the Screen comes on, it has the Horsey on it. ......I guess I'm a weird Ferrari guy that she is talking about also.
