So how much weight will KERS add to the cars next years?
This site says 55 pounds. http://www.engadget.com/2008/04/23/formula-one-to-introduce-hybrid-kinetic-energy-recovery-system-i
Yep, those #'s seem about right - For now anyway - They'll reduce that over the course of a year or two IMHO. It's my understanding that the cars will still be underweight - They just won't have as much "moveable ballast" with KERS onboard. Cheers, Ian
I wish I'd paid more attention in my Italian class now...... However, I *think* the dude said something like "methane generator" (~ 30 secs in) - I really like that - Fart, and the push-2-pass button is your friend Cheers, Ian
Do all teams have to use the Torotrak/Xtrac system? Much like the McLaren/MSFT ECU, seems decidedly un-F1. Teams/manfacturers should be able to develop their own KERS technology.
"Green" F1? Senator Roark: "Power don't come from a badge or a gun. Power comes from lying. Lying big, and gettin' the whole damn world to play along with you. Once you got everybody agreeing with what they know in their hearts ain't true, you've got 'em by the balls." -- "Sin City". Sounds like the "green" movement in a nutshell. The environmental impact of all of motorsports couldn't be quantitatively measured in thirty decimal places. Want to buy your own shirt? I'll make you a deal.
As of now, they're free to implement it (or not, its not mandatory next year) as and how they want - Batteries and flywheels seem to be the top choices, but I read that the "flybrid" guys also investigated an elastic band running thru the center of the car.... They did hasten to add it didn't go anywhere, but they're all struggling with the technology right now - Which I happen to think is great. It's not "green", and anyone who pitches it that way is simply wrong IMHO. It's about pushing the envelope of technology. Cheers, Ian
I don't care if its labeled "Green" or not. Anything that recovers wasted energy ( braking ) and re-uses it just makes sense. I hope it is indeed open to different ways of thinking so we can visit different technologies. A step in the right direction for F1. Hooray !
