Key Chain Contest

Hello All,
I recently got a new reproduction key and keychain to to use for my GT4 so I have the former key chain that I want to give away. I have decided to have a trivia question contest. Get this right and you win a key chain that is stainless steel with a leather lanyard. My friend bought this for me in Italy though I do not know if it is a real Ferrari project.

In 1983 a Ferrari 308 won the US Express race from coast to coast set a record of 32:07. People doubted that a 308 could do this because it didn't have enough power. What was their secret weapon that they attributed to helping them win the race?

Not sure I'd call myself a fan. What Roy did was absolutely insane and it goes without saying, . . . incredibly dangerous. For those that don't know, in 2006 Alex Roy broke the transcontinental record driving from New York to Los Angeles in something like 30 hours driving a BMW e39 M5. As Spencer noted, the previous record was set in a 308. Roy wrote a book about it and I think there's a documentary film out there as well. In the book he talks about using a spotter plane to scout for police, an idea he got from the team that set the record in the Ferrari. Recorded telemetry data states he did it with an average speed of 90mph w/ top speeds of 160mph. I've never had my M5 that fast but I will say that this particular car was a good choice for the attempt as it likes to be run hard. I think the record was subsequently broken again in 2013 by a guy driving some sort of Mercedes Benz sedan
