So I called Ferrari of Torrance to get a new remote(FOB). The person told me that I need to bring a copy of my driver license. A copy of the registration and I have to leave the car/key there for at least an hour. The whole thing runs $750. So since they have all the car information, I take it the new remote comes straight from the factory in Italy or do they "clone" it inhouse the way its talked about here on this forum. Does anyone know?

See post one of this thread:

If you don't have your PIN number and you have not confirmed your PIN works, stop and get the PIN and confirm it works before you spend $750.00

You won't get 1 new remote - you will get a new set of 3 and they then need to teach the immobilizer the new PIN code on the new FOB's and that cannot be done unless you can unlock your current immobilizer with the original PIN.

What Dave said. I got 3 new remotes and the PIN from Ferrari and it won't accept it. $1,000 + down the drain.

Thanks for the heads up sticky. I do have the pin. So I take it they will reprogram the new FOBs to work. What about my current fob. Will it work after?

$750 is pricy for such a simple device. Can I get these FOBs somewhere other than the dealer?

Eric, let me get this straight. You don't have the pin for your car to begin with and you managed to get it from Ferrari along with 3 remotes and they don't work!! So what's your situation now?

No, that is not how it works. The code is on the fobs. They will use the new fobs to re-program the immobilizer in the car, not the other way around. This can only be done if you have the current PIN and you are sure it works. When they are done, your old PIN will be no longer valid and the new PIN (from new FOBs) will be now used.

Ask Gobble if he can do you a clone (and then look for all the similar threads to answer any queries you may have !)

Gobble (Mark) is a friend of mine and he has helped many, many folks with FOB clones.

However, please be sure to understand the difference of a clone vs a virgin FOB:

    - A clone is a copy of one existing FOB and when doing this, the clone will get out of sync with the rolling codes. This does not happen when you have a virgin 3 FOB set.

I messaged Gobble prior to starting this thread but didn't get a reply. Yes, I read about the cloning and I understand the concept.

The PIN I have is written on a document along with the car serial numbers. Now to understand you correctly, if the only fob I have now is not the original, it implies two things; it is a clone or one of a new set that is not the original. If its not the original, the PIN I have wouldn't work since the new fob assigned a new PIN to the imobilizer. If its a clone, the PIN should work. The fob seems warned out. I suspect and hope its the original. Guess I will have to try starting the car using the PIN to find out. Now heaven forbed if the PIN I have doesn't work, I have to get a new immobilizer? "crossing fingers. knocking on wood".

I'm not saying the only FOB you have is not original. I'm saying you need to check to see if your PIN number works and will unlock the immobilizer. If you can't start the car with the PIN (using the key and PIN sequence), then you won't be able to unlock the immobilizer to teach new FOB codes (and new) PIN to the immobilizer.

That's absolutely correct. The Cars PIN and remotes were ordered from Ferrari. They couldn't get it synched up. Now, I'm stuck with a 3 remotes and a pin that don't work.

I have my original FOB that works. Hopefully that doesn't fail.

Eric, I'm going to verify that my pin works as it should. I'll take those fobs from you when it's confirmed. Of course I need Dave Rocks blessing. :)

    Roth, it's my pleasure.

There is a reason I know so much about this issue.... I'm feeling your pain. My 98 F1 only cam with one FOB. I paid for the PIN retrieval and the new set of FOB's and I've still not corrected the issue. My PIN worked one time and I can't get it to work again. It's on my long list of projects.

Anyway, be sure you carry spare FOB batteries and a small Philips screw driver to open the FOB.

Also, be aware most dealers have no understanding of this whole situation so be careful what you are told.

If you get this to work, please, please report the new PIN to Ferrari, print a label of the PIN and stick it to the immobilizer case (inside panel behind driver's seat) and put another in the car manual.
