Hi, I’m a new owner, having been delivered the F430 this evening. It’s a 2005 model with just a key… not much else…. I’m in Abu Dhabi. Long story short, it was owned by a VIP in Dubai and never driven, but serviced by Ferrari each year and is in mint condition. It still has all of the plastics on the carpets! Full service folder at Ferrari, headers changed at Ferrari etc Had a long conversation with the manager at the dealership about the car.… but the car came with just a key some seat covers and a steering wheel cover… nothing else. It’s done 17k kms. Should it have some sort of immobiliser remote / fob? They seller said all it needs is the key. I drove it for 2 mins and it’s ok. I guess my first exercise is sourcing another key in case I lose / damage this one. Since there is no immobiliser fob, I’m thinking that all I need to do is buy another key on line, do the 16 push button programming people have mentioned, and that’s it? Any thoughts or advice? The 430 key has the immobilizer and remote stuff built in. If you need a second key you will be stuck buying one from a dealer and getting the dealer to cut/program one. In the states there are other options, but I don't think there is a market in the UAE for independents to do this. In the states a spare key can cost you over 1K programmed, so figure at least that where you are.
I think the Leonardo can program keys... So you can buy an old key off eBay, then you can buy an aftermarket blank made for the key where you transfer the old electronics, get a new key cut and have the Leonardo programmed. I have not tried that route, I simply went to the dealer, but I do have a blank key with no electronics as I needed a replacement rubber switch for one of my key buttons so I bought the aftermarket one for the rubber switch part.
As an update, went to the Ferrari dealer today and met the service manager. Super nice guy and spent 3 hrs with me, including a tour of the workshop! We went through the history of my car on his system and he set me up on the My Ferrari app. Also discussed Ferrari Premuim and Classiche. He is able to sort out a second key but it could take some time - dependant on the Ferrari factory.
Glad to hear you had a great experience! When I bought my F430 I needed to have a second key made -- took a little time but it got done in about 6 weeks if I remember correctly. Had to provide a bunch of documentation [even though I had just bought the car from them] and they were able to order a key from the factory.
To program a 2nd key you need the code. If you don't have it you have to pay Ferrari to get it and THEN you can order a key and the dealer can program it, it cost me around $1200 a few years ago for all of the above. Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat
Ouch that is crazy high. I had a key ordered and programmed by the dealer last year and cost about $1,000
1. Code card is approx $100 from Ferrari 2. Required now to order key from Italy, was ~$1,100 when I did 3. Then dealership uses SD3 to mate the fob for remote unlock and the pill for the immobilizer start of ignition. Was $250
No, never got around to it. My wife doesn’t like to drive it, so 1 key is enough. More concerned about misplacing my keys, so bought an AirTag for the keyring.
