OK. I can deal with $.35 or $.50 for an ATM fee anywhere, but $1.50? No way. I went to KFC this evening. I ordered two meals and presented my ATM card for payment. The clerk said there would be an additional $1.50 charge. I said NO WAY and walked. The owner came up and stated that this is a KFC mandate.......Uh Hu! I told the owner tat I could afford it but would never pay a fee like that for some chicken.

Anyone else get whipped for ATM fees lately?

Actually, I'm infuriated the way taxes keep inching up without my consent and nothing to show for it.. but I keep it bottled up inside quite well :D

ATM fees I can understand, business' need to make a profit too. They don't charge fees if you use your VISA bank card, it still comes out of your account just the same, diffent venue, less hassle.

Pay with cash!!!!!! Seriously though..... Where the heck are these ATMs with 50 cent fees? Most of them are at least a buck or two, I don't really care since I'm reimbursed for all ATM fees by my bank. A buddy of mine got hit with an $8 fee at a stip club with seems a little excessive.

    What a bunch of B.S.

I know my VISA agreement won't allow me to surcharge on charged orders.

I wonder if the same applies to the agreement for debit cards.

Might be interesting to find out.

It happened to me when I filled up at Sam's Club the other day. That charge wasn't on my receipt but showed up on my bank statement. There also was no sign posted that this charge would be added by using a debit card. Most likely I'll be disputing this charge but I've got a feeling that it's going to be an uphill battle to remove this fee.

If you use it as a debit card the merchant usually isn't charged a fee if you use your check card as a credit card the merchant is charged 2% of the transaction

A friend of mine owns a tobacco shop and imposes a $10 minimum on all credit card purshases. When folks come in to buy a pack of cigarettes he lets them know. Usually, the guy will just ask for two packs and go but the ones who piss and moan are directed to the atm next to the door which is set to charge $2. You should see the look of empowerment on their faces as they defiantly plunk down their cash to buy ONLY ONE pack whick they are then paying $7 for!

    morons!

    ATM fees are a rip-off.

I'm about to move all my money over to E*Trade. They refund most ATM fees. Plus I'll get a priority E*Trade acct to boot and their MM accounts do a fairly good yield.

    Check them out.

Almost fell for that myself, er, I mean a FRIEND of mine almost did! My theory is that strip joints should have free ATMs, since it's more money you'll turn around and stuff up some chick's a$$. We've left in the past, rather than pay the fee. Gotta have principles. Or is it principals? Morals?

Yea. Etrade covers all my atm tapping fees. Unlimited tapping at any atm and they cover it.

If I use my Bank of America debit card as a debit in most places, Bk of Am charges me $1.50, but if I use the same card as a credit card, there is no fee. GO figure, what a ripoff

Thanks for the heads up. Have now added KFC to casinos and strip clubs as places where one should never use the ATMs...
