I am trying to install a power amp behind the kick plate...it will not fit inside the spare tire. To make more room can I remove the ECUs if my CATs are removed?

Buy a smnaller power amp? I've just put one mounted on a board inside my spare wheel & it fits with space to spare.....

That did occur to me but the Alpine which is an early 80s variety came with a power amp and the head unit has a din plug which makes connecting it to a newer one problematic. I guess I could try and find a Din/RCA converter but if removing the ECUs will work I just assume use the one I have

IMO, messing with the ECUs is a poor trade-off for more dB, especially in a high ambient 308. Emission regs change. 308 buyers are a national market. If you permanently affect ECU usability, even inadvertently, the car's value may take a major hit. My amp; though not very large, is in the rear bay, over the ECU.

There are plenty of amps that will work of speaker level inputs as well.....

If you were prepared to change the HU to a more modern Alpine you could also look at a thing called a KTP 445 powerpack. I have one in my 328, its brilliant for what it is.
