As I was driving my 9 year old to skating yesterday, she asked me "I wonder how many 9 year old girls are riding in their dad's Dinos?" "Can you find out?" Sounds like a good excuse to start a Kids and Dinos thread. Here's the first picture. We're about to run the local Ferrari Club rally. (We finished third. "Dad, did you see we beat a whole room full of grownups?") Image Unavailable, Please Login
I have a very recent experience of kids with a Dino, but no pictures, unfortunately. Yesterday, I took one of my Dinos to the Italian heritage house of a local college. The facility has a summer day camp for children, in two age groups. The children are taught about Italian culture, and given lessons in Italian. I had been asked by the director to bring one of my Dinos to illustrate the tradition of the Italian high-performance automobile. I chose the older group (ages 7-10), for obvious reason. Upon my arrival, the children surrounded the Dino, which they found to be just about the right size for them. Italian flags were unfurled, pictures were taken by a school photographer, and I was asked details of the car's history, etc. by the adult counselors, for the children's edification. As I turned on the engine to leave, the children were happily surprised at the full-throated sound, and they responded loudly to the air horns as I left the parking area. All in all, it was a very satisfying experience, and I hope that at least one small camper will retain the memory of that first Dino encounter. Fred
A good friend's son climbed in and wanted his picture taken, of course, i had to oblige him... Image Unavailable, Please Login
Fred, Hopefully you captured that moment on film/video/disc/phone for us to share? I've a mental picture, but would love to see/hear the festivities! Very cool, indeed. Thanks for that. Coop
Coop, I was an outnumbered bystander, "the man who accompanied the Dino...", to paraphrase JFK. The college had a staff photographer who took numerous still shots of the kids and the car. I was too busy acting like a Secret Service agent, observing all of those Italian flags on wooden sticks! I imagine that a small feature will probably appear in a future newsletter, which I will receive. If and when I receive something, I will make it available to you so that you might be able to post it here. By the way, today, the director's husband, who is a fellow attorney of my acquaintance (and who shares my birthday, though many years later!), will be riding over to the school on a Vespa for more Italian "Show and Tell." Fred
I have been restoring my car for nearly 5 years now! My daughter whom is 8 ( 9 in September) is extremely interested in the car(more than the wife is!) she is constantly asking when it will be finished......well the engine went in last week, we are off for a weeks holiday tommorow and when we come back i will be firing it up with the greatfully appreciated help of Tony L. So hopefully before she is 9 my daughter will get her first drive to school which she cant wait for! Must post some photos!!
I think my first born could say "Ferrari" before he could say "water". The first time I put him in the car, he wouldn't let me take him out for an hour. I'm going to put a car seat in the Dino in the next few weekends and give him his first ride. I'll post pics of that as it should be good for a laugh. Cheers, Keith Image Unavailable, Please Login

How many of you guys take kids out for a joy spin? I'm always afraid of getting busted by the police since my 5 yo is not allowed to be at the front seat yet. Ace
I put a car seat in for the kids and go for it. Have never had a problem with the law. I'm not sure the front seat law applies if that's the only seat ya got.
I got pulled over once in Toronto with my 4 year old in a booster seat. I have 4 point racing harnesses that we were both wearing. The policeman complained about the lack of a front licence plate ("The licence bracket is on backorder from Italy, Officer.") and about the seat belts. He explained it's illegal to replace the manufacturer's belts. I pointed out, incorrectly, that the car was from 1971, before cars required seat belts, and I had added them for safety reasons. The car was older than him: He conceded and sent me on my way. But he didn't comment on the kid in the front seat, so it's OK here. The local law is that kids are not allowed in the front seat if there are active air bags. For my Mercedes, I have a special seat from Mercedes which deactivates the air bags so I can have my kids in the front.
