Bit of a long shot this but has anyone any experience of child seats in a GT4?. I've recently become a grandfather (still not used to that and not thrilled by the title - thrilled by the new addition though of course!)

Probably not even advisable in a Ferrari of this vintage but the sooner he gets his first Ferrari buzz the better in my opinion!

    Thanks in advance

You can put a front facing car seat in the front seat, I did that with my kids (see pic). When they get older and are required to have a booster seat, I got the following, which worked great. Used them in my 308GT4 rear seats, and also in my 911 rear seats. They stay inflated for a long time and are really the only thing that is going to fit those back seats.

As a GT4 owner of nearly 25 years, a grandfather of 5 and a great grandfather of 7, I can say with certainty that child seats in the back are not a good fit. They are designed for a relatively flat surface bottom and back. The main problem is the deeply scalloped and narrow seating surface. Perhaps careful shopping might find seats that might work. Once the kids get to the age that they are not required to use child seats they ride in the back with no problem. A child seat in the front is not a problem depending on your state's requirement of riding in the back if seating there is available. Then again most any cop will view the GT4 rear seats as inhabitable.

Once they get too big for the back they don't want to hang out with grandpa anyway. There is a notable exception, boys want to impress their friends by being seen riding in a Ferrari, girls want to impress the boys that they want to become their boyfriend, BTDT multiple times. You will be directed to drive by the boy's house in hopes of him being outside.

Hey thanks for the info and much as I had thought. I had a Porsche seat made by McLaren in the back of my 911 from birth to now (now only occasianally!) - 22years. But with grandkids I’m sure my daughter would want to be there too - for first few times at least and the back of the GT4 is smaller than the 911. Sounds like after 30 yrs I’ll finally have to capitulate and get a Range Rover!
    Thnks for advice tho’

As long as the rover is still under warranty! I’d go for the Stelvito instead!

Love this! As the owner of the very car I was brought home from the hospital in, times are different. On that ride, my mom held me in her arms the entire way. my car has a luggage shelf. I think I was three when I transitioned to booster seats from baby seats - they sit very well and flat on the shelf and I used the leather strap as my seat belt! One of my friends dad had a four seater and I loved riding in it because it was so the same but different. the seats are very "shell" like. The current child seat laws seem a bit over done to me but I'm not a dad and the people creating them are likely in safety engineering.... If there are any with a curved bottom that molded to the seat, it would likely do less damage to the leather rather than a flat hard bottom that would have four hard points hitting the seat bottom and likely pushing hard on or through the leather.

Child seats will only go in the front in the GT4: the curvature of the rear seat just doesn't fit them (in contrast to 911s). In addition, they need a three-point belt and the GT4 only has a lap belt in the rear. I always put a protector mat underneath the child seat to keep the leather from being damaged and take the seat out as soon as possible.

Back in aut'6 (2006, I'm feeling old now), when I bought mine, I put my son--then 24--who was 6'1" and maybe ...maybe...130lbs, in the back seat. His friend came along for that 'first ride' too, and was well over 250lbs, in the passenger seat and moved the seat forward about 1/2 way, as I recall. They both fit. But my son had to lean his head over sideways - but he would have been doing that, even if shorter, so he could see out the front. His friend a big Russian kid, however, had plenty of room, even with the seat forward. Backseat though... is quite small. I'm 6' and I can sit back there with the seat forward, and have done that while re-setting the center console, a few time. Wouldn't want to ride back there - but I do 'fit' ...sort'a.

A few years ago I was ordering leather from Connelly for my GT4. Jonathan actually answered the phone and we chatted for a while. He mentioned that his father had two GT4s. I asked if he and his brother ever rode in the back. “Oh, no. That was for the dogs!”
