Thought id put this out there...I asked my little brother and some of his friends, as well as my 13 year old cousin if they, know and like exotics...at first they kida laughed cuz i guess they thought i said "Erotic" or something..anyways, they all said they dont really know what they are, and dont really seem to care...they all know what a lambos and ferraris are, but it ends there. They dont have any idea what the names of any of the cars are, except for the Enzo cuz they all collect hotwheels and have the enzo..as well it was everywhere when it came out few years ago...just wanted to know if its the same with your guys kids or any younger generations... i myslef have only been into exotics for 3 years now, before that i had no idea about anything exotic just like my little brother and his friends...

I saw a survey a while back where kids picked the Hummer over a Ferrari about 9:1.

My older brother taught me from a young age to like Lamborghinis and Ferraris. Of course we didn't know about the more rare Bugattis etc. but we were on the right track. Unfortunately, even in highschool a majority of my friends when asked what their favorite car is (I ask everybody that) would say "Eclipse", "Corvette", "Viper"... Viper is as high as they'd go for the most part.

So I guess I'm trying to say that even in my generation it's bad enough (college freshmen) but I'm not sure about even younger kids, and I don't know what it was like 10 years ago so yeah.

When I asked friends of mine in the age of 17-21 what car they want the most, out of any car in the world, I usually get answers like Supra or Skyline. Of course my friends hang around me and since I do Japanese performance parts for a living I guess I shouldn't be too surprised by their answer. None of them even know what a Bugatti or Zonda is and I would be seriously surprised if they could name a single Ferrari or Lambo model by its real name instead of "that real expensive one" or "that one where the doors come up."

Oh wow, girls are a whole different story. ALL I hear from our local high school is Eclipse, Firebird, Mustang, Sunfire, Neon or a jacked up truck. That's their DREAM car? BARF!

That's the way I like it, the minute everybody says Ferrari, or Lamborghin is when I start to sell. Keep it elite and mysterious. Main stream anything sucks. :)

While not knowing anything may be the majority, there are still plenty of exotic loving kids out there. My favorite car has been the Diablo as far back as I can remember. I wouldn't let any of these responces worry you, specially with the ever rising popularity of the use of these cars in music videos.

If there an action movie with an exotic as the star car, it would rekindle the exotic interests again.

I don't know if RAP videos drowning in bling count, but the exotic cars are the real victims in those videos. One genre I never expected was country, I saw a Brooks and Dunn video with a 360 in it, it blew me away. "That country down on the farm? Hot cowgirls and a Ferrari 360?"

I think it's a good thing. why do you guys want kids to lust over cars that 99% of the population can never hope to own? If their dream, however, is to own a supra or something like that, then they have an acheivable goal to strive towards

No one dreams big anymore. Kids these days think anything "expensive" is out of reach.

One of my good friends dreams about owning a Ferrari or Lambo, but yet continues to act negative never thinking he can reach the goal. A goal that is far from impossible. I tell him used cars can be had at reasonable costs, you're young, save up and reach your goal later in life. He just tends to shrugg it off still. But he'll come around soon enough.

It's really the people who want exotics and know nothing about them nor do they choose to want to learn that I don't want owning them.

i dont think its any different than it was 10, 20 or 30 years ago.

Theres always been groups of kids into A) trucks or B) classic cars or C) Stock Cars or D) Exotics or E) Bikes or whatever.. There was never a time when all kids were into exotics. I was around 10 or so when I saw my first Countach in CannonBall Run and that got me into it. Others might have seen the movie and fell in love with the T/A...all good.

The late 70's, early 80s saw an 'exotic craze' fueled by Miami Vice, Magnum PI and the surge of concept cars. It became pop culture and trendy to foolow the makes and models. Most of us were affected by this craze in some degree.

Times change..now its about pimp'd out 'real' vehicles. I dont find anything wrong or 'less' about that. Its just different.

Look at the ricer scene... it existed before Fast and Furious but that film brought it into pop culture and the scene grew 1000 fold. Its already going away though and something will catch the kids eye and take its place .

Problem right now for exotics is its all 'evolutionary' nothing is revolutionary...thats when something when catch on in a big way. When kids first saw a Countach or a Testarossa it was unlike ANYTHING..they were spaceships from another planet. We havent had anything design wise that stirs the soul like those cars did for thier day since then.

Sorry about the soapbox... just my $.02

When I was a kid, it was hard to qualify exotic cars. I knew all of them, I had posters up all over the place because they looked cool, not because I really understood them. I grew up with a father who loved cars too, but not exotics, vintage. So, until I could drive, until I could see first hand what XXX hp felt like, what suspensions changes did to the handling of car, it was hard to understand, and appreciate these cars and the league they play in. If they didn't look cool, I probabaly wouldn't have noticed them unitl much later in life.

In todays society, where everything is flashy, it think it's probably harder to attract the crowd that doesn't drive, simply because your car looks good.

Who knows. My cousins love car, I make sure of that. :D

At 7 I learned what a countach was and the saga began.....I use to always freak out when I saw a Ferrari or Lamborghini cruising down the road. Rarely did I see Lambos but a few neighbors had Ferraris so I spotted one at least once a week.

I always liked the fancier cars ... I've been set on the Bugatti EB110 since I was 12 or so.
That's my favourite test when people say they dig cars, if I mention Koenigsegg and they say "ooh yeah, I like the doors!" ... they're good people. :D

i agree, if you know what a zonda or a Koenigsegg is then you got some good taste and you know what your talking about, so many people have no idea there are other exotics then Ferrari and lambo, they live in a sad sad world imo...lol

All I know is that I went to the beach in San Juan P.R. This was in 1980 and I was 11 years old. I saw a red 308GTS and that was it for me. From there on it was Ferrari for me. Where I used to live there were many nice European cars like 930 Porsches, Jags, etc.. But it didn't matter, Ferrari was the best for me. I remember a Boxer I saw a few years later but I still liked the 308 better.
