bringing that little boy into the pits with him today after he crashed out was a really nice gesture. it may not have been his idea, but hanging out with him just made the year for that kid.

    well done !

That was pretty cool. I'm thinking it could be part of the whole liberty media engagement of the fans in F1.

Times are changing: in recent years I doubt even if the team had wanted to they would not have had the passes to get Thomas & family into the paddock.....

It was a combined effort from both Ferrari and Liberty, both thought of doing it immediately. Cool stuff.

As soon as I saw the broadcast, I thought to myself "Ferrari should get that kid into the paddock for a presser with Kimi" lol

Taylor-made publicity opportunity, and a natural gesture from a new father to an incredibly enthusiastic young fan. I was nearly in tears.

    Raikkonen's daughter born

Kimi Raikkonen has become a father for the second time -- and Nico Rosberg appears to be hot on his heels.

MTV, the Finnish broadcaster, said Ferrari driver Raikkonen's partner Minttu has given birth to their first daughter, named Rianna Angelia, Milana.

"We are so happy and proud," Minttu said. Their son Robin was born in 2015.

Meanwhile, Bild newspaper reports that although the news is not official, retired Rosberg and his wife Vivian are also expecting their second child.

The pair were spotted leaving Monaco's Princess Grace Hospital this week, where their almost 2-year-old daughter Alaia was born.

When contacted by Bild, Rosberg would not confirm the happy news.

Liberty Media had nothing to with the idea: Chase Carey, whilst trying to take some credit for what happened, then goes on to say that it was "F1 and Ferrari personnel" who came up with the idea:

    (From: https://www.motorsport.com/f1/news/ferrari-fan-gesture-unlikely-under-previous-f1-owners-carey-906780/ ):

Formula 1 CEO Chase Carey believes getting a young Ferrari fan to meet Kimi Raikkonen during the Spanish Grand Prix was an example of how the sport's approach has changed under new ownership.

Live television pictures showed of an extremely upset Thomas Danel reacting emotionally to Raikkonen’s early retirement from the Barcelona race.

The image was also circulated on social media, before F1 and Ferrari personnel were able to track down the youngster and his family and invite them into the paddock.

This received widespread praise and is something Liberty Media representative Carey described as a “special moment” F1 would not have provided under Bernie Ecclestone/CVC’s stewardship.

“We got all this press about the little boy who got pulled down, and they did it on their own, having a sense a freedom that they wouldn’t have had a year ago,” he said.

“I didn’t tell them to find the little boy, there are people who did it on their own, thought it would be a special moment, and it was.”

    And (From: https://www.redbull.com/gb-en/ferrari-help-crying-fan-meet-kimi-raikkonen-spanish-grand-prix-2017 ):

"......When Kimi Räikkönen crashed out of the 2017 Spanish Grand Prix on the first corner of the first lap, it was all too much to bear for one young Räikkönen fan, who was picked up by the cameras sobbing inconsolably."

"But Ferrari, nice guys that they are, took the message to heart. They duly went out into the crowd, tracked down the weeping fan, brought him back to their hospitality suite, dressed him up in some official team swag and then, best of all, let him meet the Kimster himself.

I genuinely believe that Ferrari would have done the exact same thing back when Bernie and CVC were running the show, and would have just dealt with any possible fallout from it with Bernie and CVC later on.

Ferrari wouldn't have felt they had the freedom to do it back then? - Chase Carey is seriously underestimating Ferrari on that one as I see it!

Fair enough, and I like it even more that Ferrari did it on their own accord...Think it was James Allen that said it was a combined effort.

Whether Bernie would've ''allowed it'' or not, doesn't really matter. Ferrari have plenty of VIP passes. Would it have been broadcast? Who knows, who can stop it anyways I reckon. Bernie doesn't sit there and pick the screens what to broadcast ;).

Crashing out at anytime has to be very frustrating. Doing it at the very beginning, especially when you had little or no control over it, and then having to sit/stand around watching the remainder of the race has to be the ultimate in frustration. Hopefully Kimi got a bit of respite out of the meeting as well.
