It's official :D
from Autosport: Kimi Raikkonen has been confirmed as Michael Schumacher's replacement following the German driver's announcement that he is retiring from Formula One at the end of the season. Raikkonen, currently a McLaren driver, has signed a contract until the end of the 2009 season. The Finn will drive alongside Brazilian Felipe Massa, who has renewed his contract until the end of 2008. (Andreas - as you might expect a very sad day for me! I an not happy if this is infact a "forced retirement" i understand the reasoning but still . . . .-> for me next year . . . GO AUDI - endurance racing for me!). Carol
Very Glad to see Kimi joining the team. But bittersweet... In general though I would love to see MS go out on top, as 8X WDC! I loved how in the press confrerence MS said "...there are still 3 wins left."
Merged with what? Anyway, it is such fantastic news, it cant be said often enough! Very strange that no word about it was said at the press conference. Lost opportunity.
Michael announced what impacted him and left it to the team to announce their side of things. Very decent of Michael to do so.
well...like someone mentioned. it's bittersweet. especailly after i've been saving my money to cheer Michael from the main Grandstand in Sepang next year.
A very sad one for me too, but for different reasons. Montezemolo continues to impress me. Todt is too star struck. He was in 1999 and he was this year. Montezemolo puts Ferrari first as he should.
I partly happy, partly sad about this. I hold Kimi as the best driver on the grid and he really deserves to win at least one championship title so that he can be in the history books. I want to see him there! And the chance of getting in there is far greater at Ferrari than at McLaren. Although, McLaren is my favourite team and my favourite driver won't be driving for them anymore, that's the sad part. A dream combination now shattered, forcing me to cheer for 2 teams for the following 3 seasons. Maybe more. In 2007 when Bridgestone will be the sole tire supplier Ferrari will be supreme and Kimi will then be the best driver in the best team. Ideal for winning! I wish Kimi all the best of luck and despite him leaving McLaren I still love him!
Thanks! Amazing that they extended the contract to Massa as well. I guess that happened before he went for his afternoon stroll at Monza. Oh well, as long as Kimi is in the Ferrari, all is good!
