OK, maybe this has been posted somewhere before, but I haven't seen it. At the interview table, there is a pitcher of orange liquid that sits in front of each of the drivers. When Kimi is at said table, the pitcher is nearly EMPTY by the time a question rolls around! What is this stuff? Why does no one else drink it as much? Does Kimi get really worn down or is it an act in fitness maintenance? I understand hydrating, it's quite healthy, but his pitcher is ALWAYS in need of a refill. Discuss.
I doubt this has happened much. Different countries, not many podiums lately, etc. or He may be thirsty. Also it's more than likely juice or Gatoraid.
I'm surprised anyone noticed. My efforts are solely concentrated on trying to understand Kimi during the interview.
I haven't noticed that actually, but I have noticed that every time he's on the podium, after the anthems he ALWAYS takes a big drink from the bottle of champagne before he sprays it all over.
I've noticed the rehydration (and wiping the brow) factor in post qual interviews, too. The boy *is* from a scandinavian country.
Race drivers lose a tremendous amount of fluid in the course of an event. I don't know what the numbers are for F1, but NASCAR racers routinely describe losing about 8 lbs. per event, which is recovered through rehydration.
Now if we could only have Raikonnen and Hakkinen in the interview room together you'd really have to pay attention...
you are exact...8 lbs is the most common figure for weight loss due to dehydration...but that is the most extreme, like in Malasya or Indy were the temps get really high both outside and inside de cockpit... ...Kimmi is in good shape now, if you remember him back in McLaren, his belly was so big, cameras use to follow him all the time just to mok about it, now he´s under the Schumacher fitness program, and even massa has this huge neck now... I notice the drinking too...but maybe he´s just too dry and thirsty after such an effort.
It's just that I don't see other drivers drinking anywhere near as heavily in the interview room. I know they all lose fluids - Kimi just seems to be the most eager to replace them.
...maybe he just overheats easier than any other...being born in Finnland, anything above 27ºF/-3ºF must be damn hot!
I remember a while back someone posting that he was at his heaviest weight since getting into an F1 car.
Yup, that was me. Quoted from an article in "BusinessF1", which also states that his "relationship" with his personal trainer got too cozy and that guy now gives him too much leeway re: the training.
My friends and I have wondered for years why F1 hasn't licensed the mystery post-race hydration liquid. Talk about an easy sell!
