Just came across this listing on
    Bring a Trailer.com

    HERE:
Stored 27 Years: Black Plate 1965 Ferrari 330GT

The story doesn't have the all important chassis number. I am surprised that, being a King, it was not special in any way compared to some of his earlier cars (like the 540K that Hitler gave him as a wedding present). The car looks pretty rough in the photos on Bring-a-Trailer. Funny part is all the letters saying don't restore it.
What would that car be worth today? I'd at least paint a coat of arms on the doors to parlay up the value on a Royal connection. Anybody know the car's history--how it got from Cairo to Ventura, or maybe it was bought after the Kind fled Egypt and was living the Good life on the French Riviera. What led me to being interested is I am looking up stuff on Farouk who was my kinda party animal (well, maybe more so....)

Does anybody know if it was the guy that stored it 27 years who put it up for sale or a barn finder?

The car shown in your link is s/n 7607, which spent most of its life in California. What leads you to believe that this car was ever owned by Farouk (who died while in exile in Monaco in March, 1965)?

Of course, who vets that? But on another website
I found this quote with a picture of the same car, though with a different odometer reading.
    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
)sorry, already lost track of where I found it..) I don't have Raab's book but isn't he pretty authoritative to quote from?
    ------------------------------------------------
    THE QUOTE

    Barn Find 330 GT 2+2

When was the last time you saw a barn-find Ferrari? 330 GT 2+2 Series II S/N 7607, with black plates and 81,000 original miles came up for sale on ebay and sold 12/23/2009 for $68,100.00. There was an amazing 74 bids before the bidding was exhausted.

Originally delivered to Bagley in the USA, 638/PF (according to Hilary Raab's Ferrari Serial Numbers Part I, revised).
    ---------------------------------------------------------------------
Back to my question now re e-bay cars: bearing in mind this was 6 years ago, was 74 bids a lot? Would there be more today? And is it generally a good strategy to bid over an even number (just over the line at $88,100 rather than $68,000 even). I'd like to hear from someone that lost out on this bidding war, what they would have done different. And were a lot of people blind bidding, not going to Ventura to see the car in person?

    Where?

Precisely. I have no idea how you could have made the Farouk connection.

Let me introduce you to an excellent resource on these cars, maintained by a fellow F-Chatter:

I looked up his death. He went into exile, dying in Rome in 1965 under suspicious circumstances. Hey, he was in the right town to buy a Ferrari. Now whether he actually took delivery, I'd have to see a picture before I'd believe it. But sometimes Ferrari records incicate who a car was built for, I had a Pininfarina file photo that said Bao Dai Emperor of Vietnam was who a particular Ferrari was built for but I don't know if he ever took delivery.

Also found 212 Inter he left behind in Egypt when he fled. Decent picture on this website:

    Ferrari 212 Inter - 1952

QUOTE from site; Famous fans the ferrari 212 was built in two versions: The inter and the short-wheelbase export. The power unit of the 212 was the classic ferrari vi2 designed by giaocchino colombo in 1945. Among the 212s customers were italian film star anna magnani and the neorealist film director roberto rosselini. Racing driver mike hawthorn used a 212 fastback coupe bodied by touring as his personal road car. bodied by vignale vignale was the most popular coachbuilder for the 212 chassis, but ghia of turin, ghia-aigle of switzerland, farina and even abbott of farnham produced bodies on this ferrari chassis. The 212 was also one of the first cars to cany bodywork by pinin farina after the old stabilimenti farina closed down. The 212 was supplanted by the 250 europa and the 375 america in october 1953.
This 212 inter was purchased by the models most notorious owner king farouk of egypt, who later had to leave the ferrari behind when he was forced to flee his country.

Except that there is nothing to connect Farouk to this 330 GT other than your own imagination. I don't see any such factory records, nor do I see any seller claiming such a connection. I suggest you have somehow confused s/n 7607 with s/n 0189 EL, which the Raab book and others have connected to Farouk.

By the way, I apologize for hammering you so hard about this; it's just that the internet is filled with so much disinformation about these cars. Since I have never seen this particular bit of disinformation out there, I fear that we are creating it here and now with this thread. For this reason, I just want to make it exceedingly clear that, unless you have something linking Farouk to 330 GT s/n 7607, the title of this thread is a mistake based on some sort of confusion.

No problem. We all owe a debt of gratitude to Kerry for his years of hard work.

This was probably the weirdest thread in vintage this year. Who knows, maybe 7919 has royal heritage as well :D ;)
