What sounds good to the one person's ear doesn't necessarily sound good to another's; that's why there are disagreements about which exhaust sounds "best". What sounds "best" is completely subjective. But I'm not saying that an N-GT sounds best; just that the N-GT is the best iteration of the 360 imo. And maybe that any more exhaust weight and back-pressure than is absolutely necessary seems wasteful to me. That said, I don't think this sounds "bad":
I agree but the NGT is a purpose-built race car. Not a full interior full accessory street car. There’s a reason you don’t see many people running straight pipes or even x-pipes like the S-Line. They are harsh and unpleasant. This is coming from someone who has a straight piped Porsche 930.
I can attest firsthand that the end-to-end Kline on a 360 isn’t harsh or unpleasant (whereas, to my ear, it was on the F430). Loud, though, yes. Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat.com mobile app
@ttforcefed - yes, sorry, I should have been more specific. The 360 that I'm referring to is the gated Giallo Spider that's either already on BaT or soon will be. It has the headers, 100-cell cats, and the x-pipe (all Kline). I believe his are the SS, not Inconel, and he's got the headers wrapped in heat shielding from a place in MN (forget the type). I'll update w/ further details when he msgs me back. (Fellow FCA CSR member.)
Hi Corey, I can confirm the weights for the Inconel 360 system by Kline are 2.6lbs for each Inconel Decat Pipe (5.2lbs combined), 7.5lbs each Inconel Manifolds (15lbs combined) and 27.1 lbs for the inconel valvetronic silencer section. Hope that helps.
I am the person because of whom there is the Kline exhaust system for the Ferrari 360. First I legalized the Kline for F430 for Europe and then a friend asked if it was available for his Ferrari 360. Since I work closely with Kline and am the distributor for the ECE systems for Europe, I have a very good relationship with Kline. We then sent the stock exhaust system to Kline and there he was scanned by laser. After that, the design was done. It had to be as quiet with the valves closed as it was with the huge stock exhaust with the valves closed, otherwise it would not have been legal. The result was a masterpiece for this car. With open valves extremely loud and in the upper revs extreme Formula 1 sound, even more like the F430. With closed valves extremely quiet. I have never heard an exhaust where the difference from loud to quiet was so extremely large. The CS system I also like, but who wants a very high F1 sound, murr reach for the Kline. Weight savings on the F430 are 9 kg (19,84 lbs) for stainless steel and 15 kg (33,07 lbs) for Inconel. With the 360, it's 12 kg (26,45 lbs) with stainless steel and about 18 kg (39,68 lbs) with Inconel. I weighed everything myself because I was interested. Even more glaring are the manifolds. On the F430, a manifold made of Inconel weighs 2.5 kg (5,5 lbs) and 3 kg (6,6 lbs) with heat protection. I would say to get the perfect sound I would take the F430 Kline manifold and muffler and the 360 only the muffler. Everything else would be rather too loud. Sports catalytic converters are an option, but I would definitely advise against catless. The sound is no longer so clean with these.
Thread bump. Any 360/CS owners running a full Kline (headers/sport cats/muffler) setup? The weight difference between SS and inconel is negligible for me but the price isn't. Is there a significant difference in sound/pitch between the two systems? My main reason for going aftermarket is sound, so if stainless doesn't sound as good, then the cost savings is worthless.
This guy has some good videos on it, and he weighed everything too: I’m running the inconel muffler now, and have cats on the way. Not sure if I will go to headers or not.
Still waiting on Mike to post a video. He's running Tubi headers, stock cats and Kline muffler. I'm looking for input on the full Kline system with 200 cell cats (preferably stainless, but input about inconel is welcome as well).
Yeah, I've watched Vin's videos. I messaged him on IG, hoping he'll respond (not counting on it). I'm sure full inconel sounds glorious, but at that price, I'd like to know if SS would give the same experience.
I bought my Kline Inconel exhaust after watching Vin's videos and after talking to him. The exhaust is incredible, and I like it more than my factory CS exhaust. The exhaust note is noticeably higher pitched and cleaner. Before I did not like the sound of the exhaust with the valves opened lower than 3,000 or 4,000 rpms. Then with Sline, it was just terrible sounding at low RPMs with drone. Now, with the Kline exhaust system I leave it open pretty much the whole time. It just sounds so good! Even at 1,7000 rpms lightly blipping the throttle it's already an absolutely beautiful sound, clean, and high pitched. I would recommend the exhaust every single time over the factory CS exhaust and over Sline. Plus with inconel, the materials are of higher quality.
Lastly, I forgot to mention, that while I love the sound with the valves open now, the sound with the valves closed and going through the muffler is also wonderful because it still goes through the X pipe before going through the muffler. To top it off when it is going through the muffler, it is quiet just like I want it to be the few times I choose to let it run through the muffler. Final plus is that it won’t fall apart after years of use like the factory CS will and blow fiberglass all over your engine bay. Sound, quality, looks, weight savings, etc….I give this exhaust a 10 out of 10. It making a dime pushing this exhaust. I’m just so happy with it.
I think you told me you used to run sport cats but couldn't tolerate the fumes. How much louder do you think those would make your current system and would it change the pitch?
@collegeboy, can you link any videos or sound clips, or have you come across any on YouTube that sound most representative to you?
Can’t see it changing the pitch. IMO (personal taste) I like the volume with open pipes and with factory cats. It IS louder with high flow cats and for me, too loud to use most of the time. Again, personal taste. Not a huge deal as you can just set the valves to open and close when you want with a tune, but it is cool just leaving it open now. I just went and drove it for an hour and my goodness that sound is incredible.
Watch the video he has of it on the track. That is a great example of what it sounds like. You'll hear a metallic ping sound many times in that video, and that is what you hear all the time and it starts even at just 2,500rpms. Low throttle is nice a high pitched and great. As you give it a lot of gas it turns into the bark sound we all love PLUS the metallic pig. Anyways, that's 4 posts from me about this exhaust. I need to stop. Long story short, I love it.
