I have a 1985 308gtsi and im replacing the waterpump and thermostat. I have all the nuts and bolts off but the seals around the waterpump and thermostat are like glued on and i can't pull the waterpump or thermostat off to replace them. Dose anyone have any suggestions or no of any tricks to get them off?

Whaterever you do dont pry! On my gt4 I had to remove all the studs by double nutting them to get the water pump housing off. The wp itself is probably glued on with some sealant, but taking some of the studs out will help. I have a friend who is a wood worker make me wedges out of hard wood to gently tap into the seams to loosen any aluminum housings. I used 3 bond 1211 when i reasembled mine just a very thin coat on both sides of the pump. Note they can seem to be glued on after a while, in the pic I think i seem to remember there is one or more alignment bushings that fit down in the housing so it is a tight fit even dry.

To get mine off I tapped lightly on it with a rubber mallet. Not hard enough to brake anything but hard enough to get it to wiggle just a little bit. Then you should be able to pull it all apart by hand. Robert is certainly correct also in that it could be hanging up on the studs. All it takes is a little corrosion. He was also right about the alignment "pins", there are two. They are actually more like bushings though, they surround two of the bolts.

I'd be very careful with using heat!!!

And while you're in there, replace the mounting studs for bolts to aid both removal of the pump with cambelt covers in situ and the housing also.... for next time.

After a couple of hours of tapping and pulling with my hands I finally got the dam thing off and repalced it with the new. I just wanted to be carefull and not mess anything else up so it took me alot longer than I expected. On to the brakes and rotors now. Thanks again.
