I am Kraft...
how about mayonnaise might be the most disgusting food item ever to be consumed by man. Ever read the ingredients list?
Kinda weird marketing, but Best Foods (west of the Rockies) & Hellmanns (east of the Rockies) are made in the same factory. You would think they would settle on a single recipe or slowly 'adjusted' them over time so no one really noticed. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hellmann's_and_Best_Foods Had both (not at the same time), noticed no big difference. Still prefer them over Kraft though.
Hellman's/Best here, but I like even better the even thicker, eggy mayo from Germany and Holland sold in vertical squeeze bottles and used on fries.
i tried making it one time, definitely didn't work out too well, i think i'll stick to the stuff in a jar, it's fairly simple to make, but i think sometimes these companies have got a recipe down pact and you're so used to the way it's "supposed" to taste that if you try making it, it's tough to like it. just my .02 for the day.
Grew up on Miracle Whip Not really fussy now but Hellmann's is pretty good. Not sure if I understand why some find Mayo disgusting. Some don't like tomatoes, I don't get that either.
No, very similar recipes and owned by the same parent company, but I can taste the slight difference. Here is a quote from wikipedia on the two recipes: "When Best Foods acquired the Hellmann's brand, it was decided then that the respective recipes for both mayonnaises be preserved. Today, the two products are made in the same plant. However, at least as recently as March 2003, the recipes were almost, but not entirely, identical. From the company's FAQs at the time: The products are basically the same. Both trademarks evolved simultaneously -- Hellmann's in the East and Best Foods in the West. Taste preferences vary; some people find that Best Foods mayonnaise is slightly more tangy. Both labels contain the same list of ingredients in the same quantity order: soybean oil, water, whole eggs and egg yolks, vinegar, salt, sugar, lemon juice, calcium disodium EDTA, and natural flavors. This implies that Best Foods may contain more lemon juice, although the relative quantity order is the same as the Hellmann's recipe." What they mean in the last sentence is that in both recipes the amount of lemon juice is less than the amount of sugar and more than the calcium disodium EDTA (thank goodness for that), but that the amount of lemon juice is different between the two recipes. I cant believe Kraft is getting such a poor vote here. 1. If Hellmann's and Best mayo are sister products, then the vote is tainted. Kind of like the Chevy and GMC truck thing. 2. Hellmann's, to me, tastes like any store brand mayo. Kraft has its own unique flavor. Maybe it's an acquired taste?
I dont eat mayonnaise by its self, and Ive never did a side by side. So little diff., I couldnt tell. When I saw the Hellmans color scheme on the Jar I said Thats Best Foods. I'm edjemacated though, Thanks !
