This just happened. Really hope nothing is actually broken. http://uk.eurosport.yahoo.com/06022011/58/f1-star-kubica-involved-serious-crash.html
His season may be over before it even starts. Hope he recovers early enough. Who is the 3rd driver? Is it Chandrok?
terrible news .. I hope it isn't too serious and he makes a quick recovery. so does this mean Kimi might get a run?
bild says he has a broken femoral (is it the right english word? upper leg) and head injuries. they also say, some sources report he might be in life-threatening condition. i hope they are wrong.
not good... Femur is the hardest bone to break in the body, a friend of mine did it a while ago... Hope that he's not in life threatening condition...
update on bild says he is not in life threatening condition, but they might need to amputee his left hand.
Also the team has reserve driver deals with Czech driver Jan Charouz, Ho-Pin Tung and Fairuz Fauzy. He also has fractures to a leg and a hip. Question is how long will it take Kubica to recover from his injuries...
I don't think Kimi will be in the car if Kubica can't race as he has committed himself to 10 rallies this year missing 3. http://www.wrc.com/news/archive/raikkonen-commits-to-10-wrc-events/?fid=14051 Hopefully Kubica will be back in time for at least Australia because Renault look to have a competitive car this year.
the leg, hip, hand injuries make it sound like he might be lucky to get back into an F1 car this year. I hope the hand amputation rumour isn't true re Kimi .. the team is in a bind as although Petrov no longer a rookie he sure isn't as quick as Kubica, and having what looks like a competitive car in 2011 they really need an experienced driver who can just get in & drive, and be quick .. so buying Kimi out of his 10 rallies might be an option
No ways...sincerely hope not! Forget about those three. Fauzy is pretty terrible, HPT, he might be Dutch like me but unfortunately not brilliant. Others include Senna and Grosjean. They must at least get 1 competent driver in their seat if Kubica is out.
Hulkenberg is their best bet. Jules Bianchi or Pastor Maldonado are other options. PM won the GP2 series in 2010, but it did take him 5 years to do it. Not sure I rate him incredibly high...
latest update: http://stats.cbc.ca/racing/story.asp?i=20110206131141530000101 Carrozzino said the driver underwent an examination to assess any possible damage to internal organs and the brain. Asked about a report that one his arms would be amputated, Carrozzino said that "all assessments have yet to be made." "An amputation is not a decision that is made so rapidly," he said. "I do not confirm or deny this report." ANSA said fractures of one of Kubica's hands appeared particularly serious. French sports channel Eurosport reported that Kubica may have a fractured hip and multiple other injuries, including possibly a fracture to his arm or wrist.
My prayers are with Mr. Kubica. I always feel like he outperforms., one of my favorites. I'll have to read more, but it seems like a strange time to have a wreck: "ANSA said Kubica was heading to the start of the Ronde di Andora event near Genoa in a Skoda Fabia when the car went off the road and hit a church wall."
I think the teams will react the same to this after Stefan Bellof's fatal crash; no more racing outside of F1, off season or not, it won't be allowed anymore. Shame.
+1 this is a man in his prime. I hope he has successful treatment to full recovery. A big loss from the grid if he is not around this season. This is a tough man but we do have limits as fragile beings. My best thoughts to him and his family.
