Maybe. Official explanation is that he is scheduled for his third surgery and it was therefore easier to just leave him in ICU. Be that as it may somehow I tend to believe the girlfriend more than the doctors. Unlike them she has no direct interest.
Rather a more direct and personal interest. Lay people with knowledge of the individual can sometimes see signs that doctors don't.

According to reports..."But while his fiancee says the Pole has worsened, both his team and his doctors have released statements insisting he is making good progress. Kubica suffered multiple fractures to his arm and leg and partially severed his hand in the accident, resulting in a total of 24 hours in surgery. But the Pole will now be transferred to a rehabilitation department where he is expected to remain for two weeks. He will undergo extensive physiotherapy there as he bids to regain fitness. I haven't heard anything either and I think that is fairly typical for such severe injuries: It will be months before any real healing will take place and we'll hear again from Kubica. He is probably trying to stage a comeback before this season is over, but I'm doubtful he'll even manage that. Looking back at some F1 drivers who had severe injuries and returned it shows that anything is possible: Rubens scored victories, Lauda even championships whereas for others things never improved (Surer) or were simply over (Laffite, Nannini). Too early to tell.
Saw a program on Graham Hill, last night similar story there as well. After his crash at the 1969 United States Grand Prix at Watkins Glen in which he broke his legs. Great program though, when F1 cars were dangerous..

Disappointed but not surprised. Those injuries aren't the kind you bounce back from. Its a shame. I was sure that he was poised for greatness.
Agreed. To be truly competitive, he'd have to be back 100%, and it's practically impossible. Heck, I'm not back (and never will be) 100% from a simple knee injury that I can't think what the hell I did to mess it up. As somebody said, he'll be lucky to have some strength on that hand to at least have a normal life.
If it is only his hand, he'll be back. His depth perception, heart rate and posterior haven't been affected. Plus he's one tough Pole. . I'm not ruling him out as a possible WDC just yet.
