In any case its not a good sign. I imagine even his doctors can't offer a reliable prognosis at this point.
Maybe. Official explanation is that he is scheduled for his third surgery and it was therefore easier to just leave him in ICU. Be that as it may somehow I tend to believe the girlfriend more than the doctors. Unlike them she has no direct interest.
Rather a more direct and personal interest. Lay people with knowledge of the individual can sometimes see signs that doctors don't.
Tks. I know I didn't phrase that right because she obviously has an interest in him but not a financial/careerwise one.
According to reports..."But while his fiancee says the Pole has worsened, both his team and his doctors have released statements insisting he is making good progress. "Robert Kubica's general conditions are good," the doctors said. "Kubica will remain in intensive care for two more days in order to undergo a complete check up and to avoid another ward change before the final operation. "The clinical picture is so satisfying that it allows for programming of the final surgery for Wednesday." Renault Tweeted: "The latest on Robert is that his condition remains positive. His final surgery is scheduled for Wednesday."
Taken verbatim from Robert Kubica's official website, posted on 16th February: NEWS: 16.2.2011 The surgery operation ended at 17:30 Dr. Francesco Lanza, Director of the Department of Orthopaedic Santa Corona and his team carried out the reconstruction and stabilization of the fragments of complex fractures of the elbow of Robert Kubica. - It's been a delicate operation to stabilize the articular fragments of a delicate structure that by definition is a Member of the movement, but it has suffered a trauma so violent he is injured his features - said Dr. Lanza. - Robert today will remain in the recovery room for postoperative observation, the post acute phase is expected to close in the next 15 days. The vascularity of the hand is maintained, we must wait at this stage that the healing process continues in a stable and continuous. Robert will be transferred tomorrow in the Spinal Unit structure of Santa Cornona, which receives multiple trauma cases, in this structure he will be followed by the various teams have taken over the three surgeries. Robert's conditions are stable. Kubica suffered multiple fractures to his arm and leg and partially severed his hand in the accident, resulting in a total of 24 hours in surgery. But the Pole will now be transferred to a rehabilitation department where he is expected to remain for two weeks. He will undergo extensive physiotherapy there as he bids to regain fitness. A statement released by the Santa Corona hospital in Petra Ligure near Genoa, responsible for Kubica's treatment since the crash in the Ronde di Andora rally on 6 February, read: "Robert Kubica's state of health is currently satisfactory. KUBICA STATS & FACTS Team: Renault Former team: BMW Sauber Team-mate: Vitaly Petrov Nationality: Polish Born: 7/12/1984, Krakow F1 GP debut: Hungary 2006 "It probably won't be necessary to undergo more surgery." In his first of his three operations, surgeons repaired Kubica's hand and last Friday they operated on fractures in his right arm and leg. The third surgery this week was to repair his injured elbow. Kubica, 26, who finished eighth in the 2010 drivers' table, is expected to miss the entire 2011 season, though he told Gazzetta dello Sport last week that he was aiming to return to F1 before the end of the year. Renault have since named his former BMW Sauber team-mate Nick Heidfeld as his stand-in. The 33-year-old German impressed in a test at Jerez in Spain last weekend, setting the fastest time on Saturday. Fingers crossed Kubica can get back to his life again after such severe injuries. Has anyone else heard anything further after the 18th? All the best, Andrew.
I haven't heard anything either and I think that is fairly typical for such severe injuries: It will be months before any real healing will take place and we'll hear again from Kubica. He is probably trying to stage a comeback before this season is over, but I'm doubtful he'll even manage that. Looking back at some F1 drivers who had severe injuries and returned it shows that anything is possible: Rubens scored victories, Lauda even championships whereas for others things never improved (Surer) or were simply over (Laffite, Nannini). Too early to tell.
Saw a program on Graham Hill, last night similar story there as well. After his crash at the 1969 United States Grand Prix at Watkins Glen in which he broke his legs. Great program though, when F1 cars were dangerous..
Shhht! Don't say that too loud...we had some accidents recently that could have gone easily the other way.
Disappointed but not surprised. Those injuries aren't the kind you bounce back from. Its a shame. I was sure that he was poised for greatness.
Agreed. To be truly competitive, he'd have to be back 100%, and it's practically impossible. Heck, I'm not back (and never will be) 100% from a simple knee injury that I can't think what the hell I did to mess it up. As somebody said, he'll be lucky to have some strength on that hand to at least have a normal life.
If it is only his hand, he'll be back. His depth perception, heart rate and posterior haven't been affected. Plus he's one tough Pole. . I'm not ruling him out as a possible WDC just yet.
I'm hopeful too but still worried for him. I see you've been watching some Ricky movies too. All the best, Andrew.
