And that was a clean cut with the arm in ice etc. Kubicas arm was put through the grinder and without help for a long time.

I'm glad he can lead a normal life

    Indeed.

    Lucky man in that respect.

He was fearless and fast. It would not have suprised me if he would have died in an F1 car.

Perhaps his life was spared at the expense of his arm?

Damn shame if you ask me. I wonder if there is any other forms of motorsports that he could transition to.

GT cars like Nannini may be an option.

if you look at the other kubica thread there is an interview from a few weeks ago you can see how bad the damage is. :(

I was saying this from the very beginning, you dont get your hand and arm almost cut off and return to F1. Its sad since he was one of the really talented drivers but the accident finished him off.

    Sadly.

It is a shame, IMO, he was one of the most talented drivers in a long time. He could have given anyone on the grid a run for their money.

    +1

Look at Massa, far smaller accident and he is no longer competitive.

Its a testament to the construction of today's F1 car that the Canada crash didnt kill him outright and he more or less walked away from. Compare this to a relatively slow speed crash in a tube frame car that ended his career.

    Spot on.

It is also a testament to the safety precautions around a F1 track compared to the open roads of Rally. When you watch the in-car video of the car behind Kubica from that day, you realize how friggin dangerous these events are: They could have plowed straight into a concrete wall at 100 mp/h and simply perish.
