My understanding is that he has not regained sufficient mobility and strength in his injured arm to return to F1. However, he may still be able to drive in other series, where the cockpit allows him more room in which to compensate.

It's sad... at one time I thought he had the potential to be a future F1 WDC. :(

    All the best,
    Andrew.

One of the articles I read about him is that Robert Kubica concedes that next season may be too early to consider a return to F1 given that he is still on the recovery period, but does not rule out a comeback in the longer term.

+1. What he did in 2008 was staggering. Very consistent driving the whole season, and Sauber stopping development very soon to focus on the (rubbish) 2009 car. He was in the runnings up until the penultimate round....if they had continued development he might have taken the title that year. Bet Sauber where kicking themselves after that...

I'd say he could do well in DTM (Nannini did well), or World Endurance series. Anything really. He's not slow...

I think it'd be great to see him driving in a series like DTM. He's always been fast and I can't imagine him never competing behind a steering wheel again. :)

Don't sent him rallying though - I think I've seen enough of him in a rally car.

    All the best,
    Andrew.

Never understood all the fuss about Kubica.

It was obvious to me that after his rallying accident, he was never going to be selected by a team again.

F1 waits for no man when new talents are knocking at the door every year...

When a driver with his talent, disposition and modesty arrives in F1 its good news. When one leaves it takes a while to accept it.

I still feel disappointed when I think of "what could have been" for Kubica.

I watched the partial video of the test. By all accounts his performance was remarkeable both from a stamina standpoint (146 laps I believe) and his ability to pace near (or above, by some acounts) very experienced drivers on his first drive.

Seeing his arm out of the car was sobering. Clearly nowhere near normal range of motion or appearance. I read (can't remember where) that while behind the wheel, his arm performs motion and has dexterity that he felt was consciously not possible at his current level of healing.

I think it's an inpsiring story and clearly, he's a special talent. I wouldn't rule out a return.

I have to agree with you. A F1 test will at least happen.

Last year sometime I simply said it wouldn't be possible. But nearly 150 laps in a DTM is remarkable.

Someone will give him a run once he decides he's ready. May be just for PR reasons, but I'm sure he'll drive one again before he's done. A regular race seat is a long way off though.

    Cheers,
    Ian

If you think Kubica's story is inspiring, you really need to read about Alex Zanardi's accident and comeback! - Now that is an almost unbelievable story!

I never thought that Kubica was that exceptional as a driver.
I couldn't see him becoming a major player.

OK, he won one GP, so did Maldonado, Kovalainen and I can't see nothing exceptioal in them either. If they went, no one would notice.

I really don't think F1 misses a lot because of Kubica's forced departure.
Looks to me there is a lot of false sensibility here...

Could be my perception has been tinted by his tragedy but despite his record I remember him as being something special in his attitude, if nothing else.

You'd be in the minority then IMO. While we'll almost certainly never find out, many "in the know" had him tipped for the very top - Maybe not a true, long term, "great", but for sure capable of a WDC or two.

He was damn quick in some pretty poor cars. I'd need to check, but IIRC he was one of the few who generally bested his 'mate, often handily.

I guess, as the Viz noted, most of us remember him "fondly" and memories are often better than reality, but I think that's a little harsh.

It'll certainly be interesting to watch his progress in DTM.

    Cheers,
    Ian

Kubica may never return to F1 but I am very happy that he is/will be racing again. I wonder if Alex Z. has ever contacted Kubica with words of support and concern?
