I know insurance for our cars gets talked about occasionally here on FChat. In case anyone is looking for insurance, or thinking about changing insurance companies I wanted to put in a good word for Hagerty. My 308 was damaged in a botched robbery attempt about three weeks ago. I called Hagerty and reported the incident and quite frankly asked if they were going to raise my rates or drop me. The agent said, "We don't do that." The appraiser showed up in two days and while he took pictures we talked about Hagerty vs other companies. He said Hagerty was one of the best to deal with when I came to payments (and Geico one of the worst). He said they would pay whatever it took (up to the stated value) to make the car right. I would not have to worry about an "approved" shop or haggling over shop rates. Well, he was right. His estimate was waaaaaaay off from the body shops due mostly to the rates. I left the car to be fixed and called the agent at Hagerty. He said, "no problem" just call the appraiser and he and body shop could talk it over. They did and Hagerty cut me a follow-up check! This has to be the easiest time I've every had with an insurance company (GMAC is a very close second). So, given this incident and the fact that I get unlimited miles and use, I HIGHLY recommend Hagerty.

Good to hear some insurance companies are a pain to deal with.

Joe, what do they charge/deductible? (I'm assuming you're not 20 years old with 8 points on your license...)

I think he left out the comma after "hear". ;)

As I'm insured with Hagerty, a very appreciated post. Love their magazine too.

Jon, my policy is a $0 deductible, I think that is their standard.

No deductible, agreed value coverage with no mileage limit. You MUST prove you have a daily driver. The TR6 (valued at 21K) and the 308 (valued at 35K) with BI of $50K/$100K, PD of $25K, PI of $10K is $132 per year for the 6 and $511 for the 308. The 308 is classified as an exotic and the TR6 is an antique. I believe next year I'll get to drop my rates because the 308 will go to antique status.

BTW, they are very lenient on what they insure. I had my 95 M3 insured with them about 4 years ago. They would have insured my 00 M Coupe but NC wouldn't let them. Here in FL, they wouldn't have cared. (NC is also the state that just LOVES to let insurance companies jack up your rates)

And no, I am not 20 with 8 points. Thanks for reminding me!

Joe, nice to hear they dropped the mileage limit. They covered my Mondial 8 and TR8 for years; great rates but the limit was set at 2500k per annum at the time.

I dropped JC Taylor and went with Hagerty because I wanted my then 21 year old to be able to drive my cars and Hagerty allows it. Most insurers don't.

why would the 308 be a antique next year? I thought it had to be 25,isn't your 308 a 85?

I have Grundy on one of my cars. They are great to deal with and the coverage is great. At such a low cost too.

Some of you might want to look into them as well.

lost a tr to theft and got 110% back from theft and property damage to the victims that my car ended up into..... GEICO will stand by their policy, and if you are a responsible owner, they will respect it "without penalties" and I was not responsible for anything except paying my bill for my premium...

I have Hagerty as well for my f-cars. I only found them because they would write a car owned by a corporation in another state. My motorsports corp is in Montana (for obvious reasons) and I live in Atlanta. They not only gave me a great rate, but the agents have been fantastic. I hope I will never have a claim, but it's good to hear they handled it well.

Does anyone pay their Hagerty annual premium over two six month periods, like a normal car insurance premium? Thanks.

i think you can break it up that way, i pay for my 308 and 911 annually. i also have been with Hagerty for several years, with 5 ferraris, 3 lambos, 3 911's, the pantera, and the lotus esprit turbo. no claims thank goodness, and they are great on the phone.

call them and ask, they are always looking to help.

I've had the TR6 with them since about 96 and I've never had a mileage limit. How long have you been a customer?

Maybe it was the option I selected back then since time for driving either was very limited. I had them insured with Hagerty concurrently for about 6 years. Bought the Mondi in February of '93, sold in July '99. The TR8 went into storage (huge mistake) around '04 or '05 so I terminated the policy. Sold the TR a couple of years ago to a river Capt. who lost his entire collection during Katrina.

BTW, my friend Jeff (in Cocoa Beach) has a mint TR6 and a Stag, do you know him?

No I don't think I do. Is he active in the local MG (yes, I know, but they are the only game in town) club? Curious because I haven't had time to check them out yet and would like to know how they are. If not, let him know the Brit Car Show is 1 November this year at Wickham Park.

Sounds very reasonable. Thanks for sharing.

I think I'd take a slight increase (multi-car discount lost) on my daily driver policy by moving the Ferrari to Hagerty, but probably worth it for much better coverage.
