That's one hell of a bump up! Daniil Kvyat gets 2014 Toro Rosso Formula 1 seat - F1 news - AUTOSPORT.com
GP3 driver bringing $$$ I'm sure. I forget the guy who Mark Webber mentions is a fantastic young driver but he doesn't bring much in the way of $$$ so he'll probably never see an F1 ride..... so many drivers like this I'm sure.
Mark Evans. I think Webbo is involved with him management wise. He's had a couple of good drives this season in GP2 but I'd rather look at Frijns. Nasr is incredibly consistent but is still to win a race in GP2. I think he's 2nd or 3rd now (very close to the top in pts though) and others around him have all won multiple races. Quite impressive somehow.
We all know that pay drivers will be a fact in F1 for ever, they've been there since day 1 and will be until it doesn't exist anymore. But this is quite ridiculous...I'm sure he's bringing lots of dollar with him, and once again great drivers like Frijns (F3.5 champion, occasional GP2 driver due to lack of $$ but brilliant when there) are not getting an oppertunity. I hope Frijns can get a drive next year in GP2 at least, hopefully by Russian Time (well funded team there to win the constructors championship, and one of the very few that are paying their boys instead of the other way around) and roll into F1 in 2015.
With so many teams in financial troubles 2014 will be the year of the pay drivers. Sirotkin is only the tip of the iceberg.
Sirotkin has no business being here IMO. He's driving in the minor league proper and not even impressing there. At the very least, Kvyat is doing well in GP3. IIRC the only guy in recent years without any realistic experience that has been a success in F1 has been Kimi Raikkonen, but he wasn't a pay driver. He slaughtered the field in FRenault 2.0 (17 wins out of 21 or so races). Lots of uproar from many people in F1 but Peter Sauber signed him for 3 years anyhow. Rest is history.
This is absolutly ridiculous....Felix da Costa was by far teh best choice and i´m not saying because he's my contryman, the guy is really good and well prepared...instead they go and pick a kid because he brings 15mm..if this is the case and they need the money, at least be honest about it. Last year Félix was awsome in both f.3 and f3.5, but this year his car was never up to speed.....i wonder why since it was a top team...now i start to see why.
I think Jaime Elgasuari was a good driver too, IMO. Too bad his career was over before it was even started properly. I just think STR fails as a proper 'feeder' team.
There's only so many Red Bull seats aren't there? Alguersuari was good but did he really do exceptional stuff? Not really in my opinion. When Webber's seat opened earlier this year Ricciardo clearly showed he was better than JEV and he got the seat. Red Bull can't simply kick on of their ''main team'' drivers out because a rookie might do the same job as their current driver. The young boys aren't stupid, they know that if they don't impress significantly, the chance becomes ever smaller to race for the big team. They should be lucky to be in TR even. The Red Bull YDT sponsors a lot of drivers with a full ride, and only the very best of those gets to go to F1. Da Costa finished 3rd in FR3.5, 102 points behind Magnussen...
Going full circle. OCTOBER 24, 2017 Sainz made Kvyat look not good enough says Montoya Carlos Sainz received widespread praise for his impressive Renault debut in Austin. As he switched from Toro Rosso to start his new works Renault adventure early, the Spaniard outperformed his experienced teammate Nico Hulkenberg in the US. "His first weekend with Renault was almost perfect. Fast and aggressive," said the French sports daily L'Equipe. Also impressed was former F1 driver Juan Pablo Montoya, who was in the Austin paddock as a guest. "I was really impressed with what he did," the Colombian told Spain's AS newspaper. "It is not easy to get into a new car, not make mistakes and be competitive," Montoya added. "Clearly Sainz is now among the best." Renault's bosses were also happy with the 23-year-old's performance. "Carlos was extremely motivated and very prepared, and he was aggressive but also very intelligent," team boss Cyril Abiteboul said. However, Montoya thinks Sainz's performance might actually have contributed to the demise of his former teammate Daniil Kvyat. Kvyat has again been dropped from Toro Rosso's lineup after Austin, even though the Russian performed well last weekend alongside new team recruit Brendon Hartley. Montoya said: "I think it's sometimes not fair for the drivers in the Red Bull programme. "Carlos beat Kvyat and it was said that maybe the Russian is not good enough. Perhaps what happened is that Sainz did a great job, not just at Toro Rosso but now at Renault, a works team. "For Carlos it's very good," Montoya added, "because at Red Bull there are drivers that are sometimes wasted. But Sainz has managed to continue in F1 and with a great team."
but he wasn't. He didn't excel but he wasn't bad. Time to move on and bring in some fresh talent to test their skills.
Funny. Back in the day people were complaining why Red Bull had chosen Kyviat instead of Sainz when the Russian won the GP3 championship.
Da Costa was far better option than both..he and Sainz had about 25 races together and he beat him in every single one...ok, he was a bit more experienced but even so!
