any suggestions where to find parts for my 1977 Kyalami 4.2 in germany or Europe? In particular i need steering links, middle mufflers , clutch cylinder, back shocks and the frontal shaft seal. Which parts can be used from a QP3? Ordered a copy from a parts manual which i am still waiting to be delivered Maybe i can be a little more precise once i have received it As always, help is much appreciated Dirk
Kyalami shares the suspension and steering components with QP III. Most likely all the parts you mentioned are the same in QP III.
Thanks for the info. Am still waiting for the parts manual and hope to be wiser afterwards. In case anyone knows a source for the PDF version, please let me know Otherwise i'll just have to wait for the mailman Would be great if i could just use QP3 parts. Heard it is the same suspension as in the Jaguar XJ but so far i have to clue which exact model or if it was just inspired by Jaguar
The only Jaguar interchangeable part in the rear suspiension is the differential, which is the same as in some US version of a E-type. As Kyalami is based on a Longchamp, it might be good idea for you to browse thru´ panteracars.com´s Longchamp sections. There´s a lot of information about part sources, etc.
Hi I was going to say the usual sources but perhaps I should set a few of them out? -Bill McGrath in the UK has a stock of parts and is selling off NOS Bill McGrath Maserati -MIE is the best source and they have lots more if you email them a list Maserati Club, Maserati Parts, MIE Corp. Parts Department Home - Prestige and Performace Prestige and Performance Cars | About Us -- they are doing work on my car and the owner has a Kyalami or two and has fully restored his. He would be a very knowledgeable source - workshop manuals etc ICP Maserati Parts, Workshop, Electrical, Owners, Maintenance Manuals
Perfect. A big thank you for this valuable information. Am sure i'll be able to find what i need now or at least know where to start the search. All the best Dirk
Which E-type? There were at least 3 (actually 4) versions made. Series I (inline 6, signal lights above bumpers) Series 1.5 (unofficial, but recognized) Series II (inline 6, signal lights under bumpers) Series III (v12) I'm not 100% sure, but IIRC the diffs were different between models. Good idea about the Longchamp and Pantera website!
The only real differences in the Jaguar diffs are the ratio, open or LSD (all V-12's had LSD) and the type of output-shaft bearings, which went through a whole range of types over the years. There is a vast variety of ratios, mix'n match to suit your needs. Best, Jack.
IIRC, it was the series III automatic (for an automatic Longchamp). I had a Longchamp, and this is a hazy memory. Again, IIRC E-type brake hoses are the same as in Kyalami/Longchamp. Brake pads are Aston, Jag and RR. Check the Longchamp forum, and you will find a lot of this stuff there (without the haziness). P.s. This thread is worthless without photos..
guess those are not the pics you were looking for but i thought i at least post some pics of the patient i was referring to when starting this thread Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Very interesting looking car. You don't see many of those around! I really like the front end treatment. Do you know if the dashboard covering is original? Looking forward to seeing more!
Thanks. Really fell in love with it as well after taking it on my second little drive from the mechanic to the garage yesterday. Made a list of things that need to be done and parts that need to be searched. Your above mentioned hints already helped a lot so thanks again. The sound is really incredible (am sure also due to the holes in the exhaust) but you can hear the excitement of the V8 (+me) finally being able to fire up again after many years being of being stored away. Needs a few more drives and little adjustments here and there but all in all its fantastic. To your question: yes, the dash is original. Its very sensitive leather with little signs of wear but i rather keep it original. Will post more pictures if you like once i have been able to take it for a proper drive in the Berlin sunshine. Best Dirk
Auto Schiemenz GmbH Godesberger Straße 11-15 53175 Bonn Bad Godesberg Tel.: 0228-95 10 00 Fax: 0228-95 10 030 Auto Schiemenz Home Hi Above company seems very knowledgeable on parts etc and are in Germany. Only German though so they are hard to deal with (for me without German). I go through Mr Lange who redid the black QP III. He is also helpful. http://suchen.mobile.de/fahrzeuge/showDetails.html?id=145483263&__lp=17&scopeId=C&sortOption.sortBy=specifics.firstRegistration&makeModelVariant1.makeId=16600&makeModelVariant1.modelId=20&makeModelVariant1.searchInFreetext=false&makeModelVariant2.searchInFreetext=false&makeModelVariant3.searchInFreetext=false&negativeFeatures=EXPORT&lang=de&pageNumber=1 Schiemenz seems to have the best link for windscreens etc and I had the Tedel fixed there. Please also call Mark at Prestige in the UK +44 7973625276. He has a personal Kyalami and loves them. He did everything on his and is fixing the crack in the header on my QPIII and rebuilding the motor on the 1981 also. McGrath is great but I know Mark is a "Kyalami nut". Also - nice looking car too.
Thanks William. Much appreciated. Got in touch with Schiemenz already but unfortunately they don´t mail out parts anymore due to lack of staff and bad experiences. They were still very nice and helpful so a good source for sure Might drive by there one day when i am in the area. Sent my wishlist to Bill McGrath now and waiting for their reply Will certainly also get in touch with Mark, so thanks also for his number. Here is a little video i took after i started it up after a very long time in the garage. It definitely needs to be driven once i have been able to acquire and build in the missing parts. https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/9552728/Kyalami.MOV Have a nice weekend everyone Dirk
The video doesn't work here. I get a full screen or more picture, the video appears to load, but when I hit play it goes for a few seconds and then resets back to 0:00.
Not sure about the Kyalami model but I have had best luck re parts from MIE in the US. https://www.maseratinet.com//c-171-kyalami-tipo-am-129.aspx By the way, there was a motorless Kyalami for sale. Was tempted to buy it as a project and put something fun in the motor dept! PS I would suggest for a start getting the carb kits and redoing these as I have never not had to do it with an older car. You can ship them to Gower and Lee in the UK or I am sure Schiemenz can do them also. For shipping of parts from him go through Mr Lange who is an enthusiast and has been very helpful. They have the clutch bits https://www.maseratinet.com//c-494-clutch-hydraulics.aspx
Thanks, william. Been browsing around the MIE Website as well. Will definitely consider getting some parts there in case i cannot find them here in Europe. The clutch bits look like the ones i need. Thanks! Think i spoke to Mr Lange at the Techno Classica. Very nice guy indeed. Have an excellent mechanic here in Berlin as well who has helped me a lot over the past years and who used to work at a Maserati service station in Munich (the former Maserati importer) He has his own little workshop here in Berlin and repairs everything from Twingo to A8 but is a Maserati wizzard outside of the radar. Think you might have to use the link to download the video. Works fine in my browser to stream as well but maybe not in others.
Got the video (downloading worked, streaming not), very nice. The car looks sharp. Kind of like an updated Mexico/Quattroporte hybrid. Sounds good too!
