Okay, so I got my very first Kyosho model for my birthday, a beautiful black F40 Lightweight. It was beautiful, the interior was so incredibly detailed. They got it down to the little package in the trunk. Engine was unbelievable, just really a great model. Okay now for the negative, now let me state I am super delicate with these models when handling them. So first, I don't know if this is a defect but the steering wheel does not turn the wheels. So I take it out of the box and the first thing that catches my eye is the button to open the headlights. I push it once and the headlights only crack open a little bit and I have to pull them the rest of the way open. The second time I push the button, 5 minutes later, the button literally disappears inside of the model. I didn't hear a pop or a crack or anything like that. I can't even see the button anymore. Next, the engine cover wont open unless you pull on it with a lot of force, not as easy to open as my elite models. So, is this a defect? Has anybody else had these problems? Should I send it back or is there an easy fix?

    Thanks,
    Dan

I have not had any of those problems in the five Kyosho models I have had. The only ordinary part is the headlights opening only a little. I would suggest sending it back.

The steering not turning the wheels is a problem that Kyosho has had for about 15 years... The original Honda NSXs were very prone to that problem. The way they design their steering system to ease assembly means that the steering (at certain steering angles) can normally be pulled towards the seat and in doing so, unlatches from the rack. If this is the case with this model, it's an easy fix. But given that you just got it, I'd suggest getting an exchange if possible.

I got it from Amazon so I think I'm going to return it. So if I understand correctly, the wheels not turning IS a defect but in some cases can be fixed? And the headlights only opening a little is ordinary?

I have all the kyosho f40s, all the lights dont just pop up, you have to help them up. but it sounds like you had bad luck with yours.

Was it a re-pack maybe? I have over 20 Kyoshos and NONE have any issues like yours. The only thing like mentioned above is the pop up lamps need "help". But I never use those anyway. I thinking it was a return, or it was dropped during shippping. I even have three F40s from them alone, a "regular" one and a black and red "Light Weight". None have any of the issues you speak of. Where did you buy it from? I bought an Elite 430 Scuderia from a sponsor and it had more then a few issues. I sent it back and was sent a new one. No questions asked. You have to remember, the Kyoshos are very detailed. With detail comes fragility. I'd give the shop a call and ask for a swap. Good luck, and keep us posted.

It was Amazon, not used. There was no sealing around the box, nothing to keep the sides closed. (not even tape or a sticker of some sort)

Humm, I can't remember 100%. But I thought my Kyoshos had tape on the sides of the boxes....I'd contact Amazon (who get things from the cheapest shop) and tell them it's damaged. And you'd like a replacement. Do what you have to do to get a undamaged one. The model is BEAUTIFUL!
