    Could that be a 400i serial number: 50056? Not in my data base however.

    It would be odd-numbered if it were a serial number, for this vintage of car at least.

    is the internal designation for the 308 chassis tipo....i.e. F106 AB is a North American Berlinetta. As I recall 365 GT/4 and 400's are F102, but my memory could be wrong....

    Oops, you're right about that. Ferrari didn't switch to even numbered road car chassis numbers until the last 10 years (?) or so.

    I may have to post this in the Ferrari Discussion forum to get the answer, wanted to give 365/400/412 owners 1st stab at it.

    I'm guessing this was from some part installed at the factory that is common with the F106 chassis type. Perhaps the 500 and added digits are a color code or some such thing.
