LaFerrari replacement: v12, no hybrid, less power than SF90stradale?

    I respectfully disagree, but I found this video so childish.
    There is no coherence in comparing (especially in a straight line) an overboosted biturbo sports car with a NA, with such similar power outputs, regardless the number of cylinders.
    The same goes for the 296, which is a small, lighter car with an overboosted V6.
    The turbos make a huge, huge difference in acceleration (and in the loss of emotion, sound and linearity too). Therefore, it is a dishonest comparison, IMO.

    That video was silly, as is talking about how the 296 beats the revuelto. You can turbo charge a civic and beat both. That doesn't make it special.

    The video isn’t dishonest lol, it’s purely objective

    lambo clearly isn’t going for outright performance and will sell just on the styling alone which appeals to young people massively

    performance is crazy in every supercar now

    Not really. What matters is the power curve. Ferrari just did a better job. As it did with the LaFerrari against the P1.

    The P1 is faster in a straight line than the LaF, because of the turbos.
    It will never be a fair comparison, a turbo car will accelerate more than a N/A of similar weight/power/dimensions.
    The N/A is state-of-the-art, pure engineering, and the turbos are an "easy and cheap" way to gain power.

    No mate, you are mistaken. The LaFerrari is marginally quicker, as tested by numerous reputable publications, despite the P1 being on stickier tyres: https://zeperfs.com/en/duel4525-4524.htm

    PS: The average of many results is always more trustworthy than one test.

    I'm going to disagree. NA engines GENERALLY have a more linear power curve while turbo engines spike more toward the end of their power curve, when the boost kicks in. Turbo lag.

    But I totally agree with that.
    My point was just that, in most cases, I find it unfair to compare the straight-line acceleration of a twin-turbo versus a NA, because the boost from the turbos makes a big difference.
    As for the NA, for me these engines are noble, state-of-the-art in engineering, and provide the perfect sensorial experience.
    In fact, I would prefer a Ferrari NA with a hybrid than a twin-turbo without a hybrid.

    Enzo has nothing to do with what Ferrari has become today. Road cars were intended to finance racing in his time, today the only objective is the price of the stock market...unfortunatly

    Hopefully that wing is only deployed under braking as there is no suitable front splitter to balance the aerodynamics otherwise making the car a flip risk (too much downforce imbalance).

    There were some pictures posted here showing how the air through the front of the car (and subsequently the S-duct or other) is controlled by a moveable door, so presumably Ferrari aero guys really do know what they’re doing. ;)

    Says the guy whose avatar features a big front splitter...
    Check out the 499P, without a 'wing' of sorts at the front (aka splitter) the air through those areas is too far back to balance the car...you need downforce not a venturi tunnel...
    Then again, it would only matter at very high speeds(300km +), which, with the amount of drag that rear wing asserts might never be reached anyway...hence its appeal for braking

    What about understeer? BTW there were 9 499Ps at my last event, they are really quick. One was driven by a Lemans winner doing testing. I hope the F250 gets the aero benefit of the 499 and some weight savings. Want to see that when the XX version comes out for the Programme.

    so we have to sides of conflict :D :D :D :D

    loyalists: Ferrari with V6 turbo is still real hyper car, even if there would be V4 it's still better than V16 from Bugatti

    purists: if there is no at least 12 cylinders it's not real hyper car, V6 and turbo make it world most expensive vacuum cleaner

    We’re talking about the V16 — I mean, why not 24, right? — derived from the VW VR-6 which was just a cheap way to make a V engine using only one (huge) cylinder head, yes? And that odd nevertheless also a ‘vacuum cleaner’ turbo, yes?

    Call me naive, but I think Ferrari has actually considered this..

    The more I see, the more excited I become. This will appear, as it should, as a performance focused machine. The LAF was a high performer for sure, but the styling never did a thing for me. I was in college when the F40 came out, and I remember the visceral reaction from everyone when it was first seen. I’m getting that loving feeling again with what I hope is called the F80. May be too predictable and easy for Ferrari to use that title, but I’ll be cool with whatever, because I think this car will deliver that same emotion for me as the F40 did..

    I guess its been a while since you have driven a modern-day Ferrari with a turbo engine. There is virtually ZERO turbo lag, the power curve is perfectly linear through the use of variable boost management. Infact they sloely increase boos as you move up through the revs, you do not receive maximum PSI until redline.

    And with electric motors, absolutely ZERO lag.

    Go test drive a Roma, or a 296, I think you will be impressed.

    It basically still does. Bugatti is now 45% owned by Porsche and balance by Rimac (in which Porsche owns 22%). Volkswagen owns over 75% of Porsche - so some corporate gymnastics taking place but Bugatti is still technically a VW company.
