Well, I can say that Ferrari have made a new carbon tub, because they don't already have an existing one. McLaren's tub was designed and developed from the outset with the P1 in mind. The engine is an evolution of the F12's. The suspension is based on that of the 458. The brakes are used in the Speciale, the gearbox is also an evolution of what is currently being used across the range. All of those make your argument pretty much invalid. As for "bespoke styling", all of them are "bespoke" in that sense.

The P1 reviews have been outstanding, not because of the numbers, but the overall package. In one of the recent LaFerrari tests, they described the LaF as being the modern day F1 and P1 being the F40. Again, they're both great in their own way.

    Wonderful stuff.
But then again, did anyone really expect Ferrari to produce anything other than a sensational car ;)

The more I read Sutcliffes articles the more I understand that he writes the total BS. How the journalist of such a high level can write the next: "As with the P1 and 918, LaFerrari features a carbonfibre tub on to which the engine and suspension are mounted."

Specially for mr. Sutcliffe - on P1 and Laf the engine and gearbox are mounted on Aluminium rear subframe, to which suspension is being connected. 918 uses carbonfiber for rear subframe instead of AL. Except Porsche nobody can use CFRP for subframes without agreement with them.

As a matter of fact the answer is 'yes'. Quite a few people (here and elsewhere) were fully expecting the reviews for LaFerrari to reveal that somehow Ferrari managed to produce a million dollar dog. They made it clear that the reason it took so long to produce reviews was because Ferrari was 'hiding something'. Really?

And a selection of some of the greatest hits from the bashers.....

    "Its too heavy!"
    "Too big!"
    "Too long front overhang"
"That stupid rear spoiler can't possibly produce enough downforce...."
"Ferrari is only good for tooling about in Monaco"
"No matter what it does, P1 will be better!"
"Well, if the press DOESN'T say good things about it, they will be banned from Ferrari FOREVER!"

And of course......the evergreen: "Chris Harris says Ferrari lies about their cars! So no matter what the reviews say, I won't believe it because Ferrari is a fraud and I hate them because rich ******bags own Ferraris/Chris Harris/Jalopnik says its gonna catch fire!!!!!"

    GAG!

But it turns out the rational folks were right. All three of the next-gen hypercars are a reflection of the companies that made them. Each is special and unique in their own way and each is bullet fast and staggeringly impressive. It would be nice to see and end to the constant need to make sure everyone knows that 'their car' is better. But thats not what the internet is for I suppose.

i always said all the opinions on here are biased. the most pathetic thing about these 'discussions' is that the people who are very subjective for various reasons ( either the owners of one of these cars or super fanboys that has a strong need to protect the brand for no pay) are acting like they are non-biased and scientific. they love to preach about their constructive contribution to the forum and refuse to admit their limited preference, and fail to acknowledge all the passive aggressiveness they have been sending out.

To date the Porsche is the best selling and the fastest around a track. Resale value is totally irrelevant. I would not underestimate them.

Have they even competed against each other so as to know which is faster around a track?

Super sports car equipped with a hybrid drive laps the Nurburgring Nordschleife in 6:57 minutes

Atlanta. The Porsche 918 Spyder has conquered the 12.8-mile (20.6-kilometer) lap around the Nurburgring Nordschleife in less than seven minutes. Achieving a time of six minutes and 57 seconds, the super sports car equipped with a hybrid drive shaved 14 seconds off the previous Nurburgring record for a street-legal automobile, and 17 seconds from its run last September.

Wolfgang Hatz, member of the Porsche AG Board of Management in charge of Research and Development, commented: "We promised a great deal with the 918 Spyder, namely to redefine performance, efficiency and driving pleasure. We have kept our word."

As befits Porsche, the 918 Spyder is also paving the way for future generations of super sports cars. It is currently making its global debut at the International Motor Show (IAA) in Frankfurt. With its unique spread, the model blends maximum driving dynamics with minimal fuel consumption. By setting a new Nurburgring record, the 918 sports car is demonstrating both the enormous potential that lies in Porsche's pioneering plug-in hybrid concept and the leading role the company enjoys when it comes to developing sporty hybrid vehicles.

"The radical hybridization of the 918 Spyder from the very outset is what made this record possible," says Dr. Frank Walliser, head of the 918 Spyder project. "The Nordschleife is and remains the toughest measure of a super sports car. Posting a time of 6:57 minutes, we have achieved a result of which the development team and everybody at Porsche can be rightly proud."

The record, which was previously held for four years, was broken during the first test drive attempt in the morning of September 4. All three drivers - former European Rally Champion Walter Röhrl, Porsche test driver Timo Kluck and Porsche factory driver Marc Lieb - were quicker than the existing record with each lap driving two different 918 Spyder, and posted several lap times of less than seven minutes. Ultimately, it was Marc Lieb who posted the absolute best time of 6:57 minutes, driving at an average speed of 111.5 mph (179.5 km/h), as measured by Wige Solutions. Marcus Schurig, editor-in-chief of the sports car magazine "Sport Auto,” was on hand as an independent observer of the record-breaking runs. The two sports cars, which both deliver an output of 887 hp (652 kW), were equipped with the optional "Weissach package" to increase driving dynamics and the standard Michelin tires developed specifically for the 918 Spyder.

Yeah and the LaFerrari lapped the Fiorano track faster than any other road car. What's the point though since none of the competitors posted a time there?

They're the only ones that had the balls to publish the time in public.

Although I'm aware that McLaren did lap faster and I know that from a few very highly regarded McLaren insiders, I can't but feel very disappointed about their decision.

About lap times. I wouldn't underestimate Porsche. Delay of deliveries was not because of components shortage))) Also afaik, production cars do not suffer from brake pedal issue. After all none of the journalists have tested production ready car. So, lets wait for comparison tests and see who is the fastest.
For now we can only say that 918 is the most advanced if 3
    LAF - best sound
    P1 - upscaled mp4-12c)))

I think that says an amazing thing about Ferrari's ability to design some of the greatest cars the world has ever seen. Not all the greatest, but an awful lot.

Well, you just sounded like a complete ignorant. It has been hailed by everyone who has driven it and most prefer it to the 918. So much to being "bespoke".
