Was just thinking, the La Ferrari is an already a light car, what would the weight be without all the eMotor and batteries. Must be a big difference.... What do you think?

The electric motors contribute the equivalent of 163 HP to the LaFerrari. The weight penalty for this extra complication to make horsepower is 330 pounds. That figure represents 132 pounds for the electric motors and control systems plus 198 pounds for the batteries.
Also the carbon fiber cockpit weight is 154 pounds, 66 pounds less than in the Enzo's. Super light carbon fiber body panels shave a further 22 pounds compared with the Enzo. Even the paint used saved 15.4 pounds.
All weights provided by Roberto Fedeli when he was at Ferrari.

    Great info!

So if we compare total power/weight ratio with, and without, electric assist ... which one wins?

    :)

(Of course, this simple question doesn't even take into consideration other issues such as : torque balance/contribution vs rpm, weight distribution/CG, etc etc).

You could quote numbers on paper but that doesn't explain how the LaFerrari feels without the extra power. Because it was engineered as a complete package taking away part of the package may leave a hole in the drive ability of an otherwise complete experience.
Weight is always the enemy and these cars are already so fast that a weight loss would likely enhance the overall driving experience. The electric component while well integrated could be holding back a more pure driving experience. Those brakes being one example of the compromise.

This. The torque curve of the engine has been maximized for the electric motor's ability to supplement power delivery at low engine revs.

Take away the motor and you lose that low end. It still might be more fun w/less weight and a peaky engine sans crazy low end torque, but it might also feel like less of a complete car given the expectations of modern hypercars.

I remember how everyone dreams about 1000 kilos Enzo successor but that's never happened

Agreed (as i hinted, in my previous post).

So ... not only do the numbers favor the addition of the electric assist (compare power/weight ratio, with and without), but the driving experience is enhanced as well : electric motor torque enhancement at lower RPM, lower center-of-gravity with batteries (vs. without), etc etc

I wonder how much fun it would be to drive with a manual transmission and without the extra weight of the F1 gearbox and electric motors. I'm sure it wouldn't feel at all like a standard LaF, but 800hp NA and lighter sounds like a blast.

The electric bits produce at 2lbs per hp, which is pretty impressive (and better than the overall weight/power ratio of the car). If you figure the total weight of the ic engine (which includes all cooling, fluids etc) it's probably a little better than the electric. If it were removed, the overall weight/hp ratio would suffer, though.

I understand the loss of power and torque. But I am more interested in the thought what could Ferrari do if they wanted to. I just remember how insanely light the F40 is and its like every model got heavier. Then looking at the numbers of the LaFerrari, I guess its as light as an F40 in a way without batteries, eMotor and recharge system), but far more features (aircon, airbags, stereo, comfort, etc.....) Its just impressive when you really think about the car's tech and comparing its weight.

Plus you need the real kerb weight, not the factory published.

Going back to even the 288 GTO, Ferrari has always been "optimistic" about the weight.

Hmm, that batter weight seems wrong.

The battery package in the 918 weights 304lbs, but has 3 times the storage, 6.8kwh vs 2.3kwh in the LaFerrari.

There were rumors about the XX version of the LaFerrari that it would be without eMotor and batteries but like we have seen..nothing of these ever happened.

    That would be great though!

would love to see something like that really get made, but sadly, I think that will only become a reality if a customer really wanted a one-off sort of Porsche 'RSR' type machine and completely re-engineer it ala Glickenhaus
