I can confirm that this is legit and currently in development. Know a few guys that are following the project closely. Unfortunately I can't share any furter details at this time.
When there is a project in development, there are several details that the people working on it know and don't share publicly. Everybody knows that there is a new Ferrari coming next year (458 successor), but they don't know know the weight, power, accel data etc. Where do you see all the information for the special version of LaF? (Since you are implying that everything is already leaked) Where did you read about the leak talking about the details of project? I would LOVE to see that, haha! All he said was that there is a special version of LaF coming, nothing more. Just a causual project announcement, in the same way that if you ask Apple if they are working on the iPhone 6, they will say yes. What an utterly stupid comment.
It will be a four year project before the client customers start racing them and development started last fall... I think the other discussion was about an alternate design choice for another LaFerrari version that the designer favoured. Not the xx program model to be raced among themselves.
I remember posting about 12 months ago that I was told this car was coming when I had a meeting in Maranello, so no surprise here and totally logical.
I have been told strictly not to speak outside about the details of the project and I would think that those that are in a similar position to me have been told the same. I'm already skeptical towards some of the information that has been posted here. Not judging anybody, because they may have been told something else than me and given a different instruction on what they could talk about. I'm just noting that I personally have been told to keep it in my head and therefore I would be critical of someone posting a lot of preposed details of a project that we are not supposed to talk about, yet. This is not like when there is a new model (PP car) shown to the dealers and clients in Maranello and info "leaks" out. Don't forget that it's very easy to make claims on the internet.
These "new" models are getting a bit too predictable, IMHO - I for one am not very excited about a track spec La Ferrari UNLESS it is intended for true competition racing vs. other marques. Honestly, how would this be any more exciting than an Enzo XX or a 599 XX? More or less all the same - very expensive track toys for very rich guys, nothing less and nothing more. Maybe after all these years of owning and driving Ferrari's, I'm a little jaded....
Maybe you should simply buy an XX or FXX and come play with us....yes they are expensive (but "cheap" was never a word associated with Ferrari) and then you will see that a race is a race is a race, but in a Ferrari with a howling V12 and fantastic technology then it is simply awesome.... No one criticises mono-marque races (Porsche, Ferrari, Renault etc) why attack the XX programmes? Because they are exclusive? Bahhh.... Then you should say the same thing about F1 Clienti and driving an F1 Ferrari remains the ultimate privilege.... I race GT3 and GT2 but my enthusiasm for Corse Clienti events does not falter for a second. Quite the contrary....
+1 XX (or rather, Corse Clienti in general) is for the discerning enthusiast with the suffienct bank account to pay for it. Many of them participate in other forms of motor sport, but there is nothing quite like what Corse Clienti offers. It's unique. Close cooperation with the factory gives those who are lucky enough to participate an experience and opportunity to build a relationship with Ferrari that you cannot find anywhere else.
+2. Well said. My perspective, having participated for one year now: It's incredibly enjoyable and a unique experience. The 599XX is awesome yet user-friendly, and unlike some other competitive amateur series, everyone is polite and respectful on the track - even when you're the newest and slowest member out there. I am looking forward to the LF-XX as a continuation of the series.
