I was at Laguna this past weekend doing a little work at the last ALMS event. I finished up my meetings on Sat morning and before heading out took a stroll through the "infield" to see what was going on, etc. I visited the Porschel, Audi, BMW and Corvette club areas....a lot of nice cars, some had the full-on hospitality spread as well. Then there was the Ferrari area which had the 599 there (previously in the paddock w/the Ferrari guys)...Anyway, the Ferrari area had security so none of the spectators in the in-field could come see the cars....Seemed a bit of a shame...you take your car out in public and then post guards around so no one can look at them. Didn't seem quite sporting and I think left people thinking poorly of the group. Certainly there is some logical reason for this....worried about people scamming your hospitality stuff or touching the cars, etc. Don't know, but I'm sure a logical explanation. But I think if you are going to be in any place where you will receive the most respect for your car and space it would be with the crowd you'd find at this race. Just an observation from an outsider.

The sad but likely truth is that they probably do this as a result of some buttsniff screwing something up at one time.

I think it was probably the only way they could control the food, for one thing. I would have preferred they posted people at the tent entrance and let spectators into the parking area, but nobody asked me.

That reminds me of the last Houston Auto Show i attended. Both my friend and I entered the show excited to see the Ferraris on display only to find out they were roped off with a few people standing watch on each side.
I completely understand their reasoning though.
One year in particular i attended twice, once on a friday and once on a sunday; the first and last day. I sat in the same Jag both times, on the final day of the show when i sat in the car again the screen for the radio looked like it had been carved by a key. Sad to see how little respect some people have (or do not have).
