I got a stand by spot at Laguna Seca for this Friday. Unfortunatly it is a 92Db sound restircition day, and I can't bring a spare car in case I get meat balled for sound violation (unless I put a tow hitch on the RS4...). So here is my idea for the CS... I'd appreciate your input..

Fabricate a clamp that attaches to the outside exhaust pipe that attaches a larger diameter pipe over the exhaust tip flange. This larger pipe will have a super trapp connected on it. Low impact, lower noise.

Bad idea? Odd but good idea? Or do you think I should just but a 90 degree bend down and to the left (away form the soudn check station at Turn 5 & 6).

    Thanks!

Someone on here had good luck clamping tin cans to the exhaust tips, with holes punched in the cans.

Just take it easy as you go under the bridge and it will be fine. I had a TR there with a straight exhaust (110db), and just took it easy past the sensor and never got hassled.

Unfortunately they also have taken to roaming the track with a portable unit...don't know if they do it every event or not, but it is in their playbook.

Yeah, that seems to be the newest method that they have been doing consistantly. I hate to drive 5 hours and get in two fun, fast, and loud laps, then drive home. They don't seem to pay well with experimentation once we are there. :)

Anyhow, any thoughts on the ol' SuperTrapp?

Old thread but still relevant with all the track noise restrictions. Did you end up using the SuperTrapps and did they work?

I raced a Sports 2000 (SCCA) at Laguna Seca in 1990. Before I went, a fellow racer told me that I would exceed the sound limit with the open exhaust I normally used at Willow Springs. The cheap fix was to slice a beer can in half along its length, after cutting off the top and bottom, and attach one half to the exhaust exit. So you ended up with a half-cylinder extension that deflected the sound in a direction opposite from that of the measuring device. Those were the days where the measuring device location was known and fixed. It seemed to work.

Isn't this the same setup that the guy used and melted his f1 pump hose? I don't have an f1 but if it melted that from the heat in the bay it can surely cause other damage

I'll be at Laguna tomorrow on a 92db day... With no special pipe. I'll have to see what happens...

I have a Fuchs back box, but otherwise stock. Was told I measured 90.5db foot on the floor up the hill in 4th gear. Damp cold air. Not convinced they weren't taking it easy on us from the sound booth today - there were some loud ones goin round. 92db day, and didn't get meatballed all day. Good times.

Sorry, it was a 360 Modena with a Fuchs exhaust. Everything else stock.

The ones that work best at Laguna seem to be turn ups to the left. L pipe just clamped or inserted and held with a set screw into the stock tips.
