I am assuming this is for tracking your own car ... any aftermarket safety equipment required? How much time do you estimate that you actually spend hot-lapping for the $280?

Your car, your wife's car, your buddies car, you can rent a car.
You can track any car you want to bring, street car, racecar, it don't matter to me.
Please note $279 is the least expensive day at Laguna Seca you will likely see this year.
Tech Inspction rules for street cars can be found on pages 45-49 at the link below:

Please note the original post indicates that we expect 7 20 minute sessions per driver which equals 2 hours and 20 minutes. This is not garanteed as a track closure du to a nasty wreck and fliud spillage mey compromise available track tome for the participants, but using the last 3 events as an indicator, the last hour of each event has been opened up for all cars since the number of drivers dwindle by the end of the day, bringing the total track time to over 3 hours per driver. This is why we call them MAX TRACK TIME EVENTS
I suggest you bring extra brake pads and tires etc, race gas and street gas are available at the track.

Since I am new to this forum, I suggest you contact list member Roland Lindner as a reference for the quality of the NASA events if you are not already a member.
    Thank You

Thanks for the info, I'm very interested. If I can get some dollars allocated to that, I'll bring my Sentra SE-r.

    Hey flyer,
I'm sorry, I really don't know what that is.
I'm a vette guy, and it all depends on how it's built, my 600 hp Corvette racecar makes 92 db and it seems really loud. but it is a low, bass tone big V8.
I have 348s, 355s, 575s TRs and Modenas at the track all the time and they pass sound fine, but that doesn't speak to every 348, 355, 360, 575, etc.
My best guess is that a car with a muffler, that seems noticable to slightly loud in the street is probably going to be ok, if it is annoyingly or obnoxiously loud in the street it probably won't pass.
Just having your wife complain about how loud it is bears no relevance to actual db, (ever notice that only wives and never girlfriends complain about such things...)

FYI 92 db is considered max street legal for a street car in CA.

I have no say in db measurement but the track forces me to pay two county employees to monitor the sound booth all day.
    It's a county thing.
The sound booth is located 50' up and away from the track on the right (pass) side.
Many cars run removable tips that point the exhaust gasses out and to the left side 90* so the sound booth pics up less.
My exhaust is full custom with one exit on drivers side pointing away from sound booth.
My car was designed to race here and I have different mufflers for different db level events.

If it was up to me we'd all be running straight exhaust, I love to hear V12s sing.

Any other help I can offer, please post,

    Evan
