Went up there this weekend to look at their testarossa's. I was wearing cut off camoflauge pants and a t-shirt, and I had my 2 two year old boys with me.

I was pleasantly surprised by the treatment. I was expecting someone to rush up to me and tell me to "watch my kids closely, these cars are very expensive...." Thats what usually happens at the "other" dealership.

Guess what, no one did. Hell, I roamed around with my friend and kids, and even got nice and close to an enzo. My kids were just asking me "Is that a poo-sha daddy?" Of course I had to set them straight - "It a fa-ra-reee." And they just repeated it beautifully. The salesperson that helped me out was "Greg", and he seemed very nice and knolwledgable.

For folks who might be interested, they have 2 testarossas:

    1) A red 89 I believe. This one needs some love. As Greg pointed out, someone had buffed it so frequently that they actually went throught the pain in a couple of places! Ouch...costly. The interior also had quite a bit of seat wear, more than one would think for a 10k or so car. Asking 73k$, with major due. Price seemed a little steep. I believe its on consignment.

    2) A white/red 88. Very nice shape. Just had the major and the clutch. Interior was a dark burgundy - I liked it, but I can't say my friend did. Resale scares me with these colors, but overall a nice car.

Of interest, when I asked to see the maintenance records Greg stated that he couldn't do that because of "privacy laws." I have never heard of this, and this sounded fishy. He said I would get copies of the records if I purchased the car, but all names and PRICES would be blotted out. Well, whats the sense of that? If I can't verify things, that makes the records pretty much worthless, no? I can see blocking out the sellers name, but the prices???

They also had 2 nice 993 turbo's, not sure if they were for sale. The kids wanted their "chu-kin niggits" from McDonalds, so we had to go!

    Thoughts?

    Nice story...

LFSC is filled with nice people. Its a family run business and the owner down to the kids who wash the car always make people feel welcome.

Good luck on your quest for a TR.

Yes,I was checking out both of those cars at their Open House a few months back. The Red car did look "Rough" The Paint, and interior was as you stated. The Front Spoiler was all scratched and gouged up. And,if it needs a major Service....Definitely a car to pass on...especially at that price.

The White one really caught my eye. As much as I'd like a Red/Tan Testarossa,to match my 308. I could go for a White one...EXCEPT that this one has a Burgundy Interior. I prefer Tan,Crema, even Black. It was a VERY Clean Car,though. But,again, agree about the Resale. If the Interior was any other color,it would go better,IMO. I believe they were asking around $65K for it....

FWIW, I can confirm that other dealers will not release records because of the privacy laws.

Larry, if you can't release records then what is the point of buying from the dealer? I don't need the previous owners name, but I do need the location of services, what was done, when, and the price.

I have always gotten this in the past, with no problems. There must be some misunderstanding here.....

i have never had a problem with dealers releasing service records. ever. authorized dealers. independents. etc. etc. from all over the country (and canada).

when i sell a car, i make copies of all my records and remove my contact information (but usually leave the prices - you WANT someone to see how much money (love and care!) you poured into the beast!). the dealers know how to get the contact information.

    that is weird.

I was very interested in the titanium gray 355 GTS they had out there. Yesterday, I went out to Long Island to discuss the car with my friends at Autosport. We called LFSC, and left a message on Greg Burner's voicemail. He called back a couple hours later with news that the car had sold. Greg Burner and LFSC have a good reputation, and I would have liked to do business with them (that 355 is the color I'm looking for...). Oh well, que sera sera.

I've posted several times regarding LSFC.
I bought my car in Colorado, but get it serviced at LFSC.
Excellent people there, very straight forward, no BS.

I agree... strange that they could not just black out name and address of prevous owner(s). You wanna see what was done and the cost, and when.

Well, perhaps some of the previous Owners were,"High Brow" types...(Either,"Real",or,in their own mind....:) ) "Big" Businessmen,Celebs.,Athletes,etc...and don't want any of their info.put out.

Sure, when you buy a car from a Private sale, you get the Title handed over to you right then and there. Along with all Service Records. But,maybe LFSC just likes to keep the previous owners confidentiality.

Maybe so that the new owner doesn't bother the previous owner about the car. Aksing all sorts of questions. But,I've found in my own experiences that most "Car Guys" (or Gals) Like to hear from the new owners of a car that they once owned.... I contacted the Original Owner of my 308. He's an old man now, living out in Arizona. And,he was really thrilled to hear from me,and how "His old car" was doing.

I believe the privacy issue stems from the same law that has your Doctor's office making you sign all kinds of paperwork. It is a matter of releasing information without consent. While I'm not too versed in the details, I would think having written permission from the previous owner would allow them to release the service records even if they have to black out the personal information.

If it was truly a privacy issue... more than half of the used F-car market would be littered with cars with NO service history available. Besides, "privacy" is a joke now.

I called someone in Texas last year when looking at a car. His name was on the service records, found his number in the internet. We was very helpful, not upset at all about being tracked down.

... besides, this is NOTHING like your medical records.
It really is not a personal issue that you may or may not have had your oil changed on a regular basis. Most people know what servicing costs, and what parts cost. Buyer beware of the lack of service records chalked up to "privacy issues"

Now, when my previous insurance company kept sending me the bills for someone who shared the same name as me, who had more than $7K in outstanding bills for "partial removal of the rectum" (printed on the things sent to me), THAT is a problem. Some choice words about privacy, and the invitation for them to come and confirm that my rectum is indeed intact, made that little issue disappear.

And,simple Doc's such as Service Records for a Car are certainly less "Classified" or "Top Secret" :) than anything that is a matter of Public Record. Just make sure that the car's VIN is on them. Thats really all that matters. (Yes,we can start going in the direction that they can be easily Falsified. But,when dealing with a Credible Source,it's probably not worth them losing their Business to something like that. It would be like turning back a Odometer or something...:( )

I definiely agree with Spike. If they won't let you see the Service Records. (Or say that there aren't any) Then, assume that there never were any,and deal down the price of the car accordingly. If they can't or won't 'Prove' Service History to the BUYERS satisfaction, then, assume that it is in need. Just my .02cents.

I agree, it makes for that much more of a pleasant experience when dealing with someone like that. I'm still on the hunt for my 1st F-car (leaning towards a 355 but really appreciate the 3X8's for their classic beauty) and fully expect private parties to open up their books, otherwise won't even consider them.

I dealth with a real nice gentleman who shared some his 30-years of car stories when I bought my Z06 from him. Not an F-car of course but I still appreciate hearing from fellow car enthusiasts. Looking forward to meeting some of you folks in the near future but in the meantime will chat with y'all here.

It would be nice to meet you also,Sam. You need not be 'Apologetic' for not having an FCar-yet. True car guys appreciate cars from all marques...(within reason, that is...Not alot of Yugo fans out there,I don't think...:) ) I know I do. I've owned Several Old Muscle Cars from the Big 3...But,mostly Chevy, then MOPAR,and a few Fords. And,also had a Porsche. I like what I like. And,appreciate any nice cars, regardless of who made them.

Corvettes are certainly Nice Cars, too. I've owned 7 of them, and wil probably always have one. Though, for the first time in 20 years,do not right now. Just my 308. And,right now am looking to add Ferrari #2...:)

But,you are more than Welcome to join us on Drives,Cruise Nites, get Togethers, what ever. We are attending a Car Show at Hooters on Higgins Rd. this Sunday,(Check out the Thread for more info.) If you want to stop by and meet everyone, and have some Wings and watch the Bears opener...:)

    Hi bpu699
I'm James from Lake Forest Sportscars Ltd,. (Parts & Warranty) - Greg Berner was trying to adhere to the newer privacy laws which are very strict and come with high penalties... I just have correct an oversight that Greg made, we can release copies of all of a cars records to the current owner , we would have to block out and previous owner information and/or any internal information, but the retail prices would be shown . Sorry for any confusion.

    Regards
    James Young

Hi,James. Yes,when I bought my 308 from LFSC,almost 4 Years ago. They gave me all of the paperwork that they had for the car. But,it only showed what work was done to it. Not any previous Owner info. Which was fine with me. But,You can easily track past owners of any Car through the DMV.

But I ended up finding the Original Owner,(with some help from Bob C. Thanks again,Bob!) But,he is now an old guy retired and living out in Arizona. Didn't have a lot to tell me about the car. But,he was extremely thrilled that I got in contact with him about the car.

James, any idea where 132664's new location is...? Did it stay in IL or has it gone out of state...?
