No thanks... Just looks awkward. If I were to copy anyone's door, it would be Koenigsegg. But that just doesn't fit.
It doesn't look awkward to me, it looks "functional". Anyone who has one of these cars knows that you cant park it within 6 feet of another object (curbs included) or you cant get out of it with anything less than extreme agility. The width of the door sill demands the door be swung completely open for graceful entry and exit. Thats the door this car "should" have had. CMJ
I'm in agreement with you... I'm 6'1" and when parked in a garage I have to contort like a Cirque-Du-Soleil rubber-bones. These 355 scissor doors could go up a bit more instead of out, but maybe that was impossible.
You must have pretty tall curbs in CA because here it's no issue whatsoever. And, why do people insist on changing the design of this awesome car? I don't get it - I can't think of a single thing besides the aluminum dead pedal I added. I love the car stock and that's why I own one ;-)
All of these dopey door kits require the door to be opened (typically all the way) the original way and then swung up to get the "look". It has no door opening function at all. It's just an extra step if you want to look like a super D bag getting out of your car. Utterly and completely useless, unless the car manufacturer has designed the car for these doors.
I wouldn't really call those Lambo doors, I think of Lambo doors of operating in a vertical plane only. I presume the doors in the picture do their "up and out" travel to make the original doors seals function. I don't know if 355's have the same problems as 348's with the crappy wiring between the doors and the car body, but those doors would certainly require major revisions in the wiring harness. The modified hinge probably would make an easier exit and entry, but you better watch your head. Not much Cool Factor if you clunk your head on the door getting out, but, hey, the blood would match the paint.
Great- add 20 pounds of weight, add 300 new squeals and rattles, three inches of water on the floor every time the car is washed.. (We all know 355's don't go out in the rain.)
A Lambo was crashed here in the Czech a few years. The story is that it rolled on its roof, caught on fire and both passengers burnt alive as they could not exit the car. This has turned me off lambo's doors. On the 355 looks worse.
I was thinking about that same scenario the other day when I was driving my DeLorean. It that thing is wheels up, there's no way you're getting out. I'm gonna put a small hammer punch in the glove box incase I need to break the windshield.
Lambo doors are the coolest! If they go straight up unlike the ones depicted on the Red 355 that would look great!
They can't really go straight up because of the design of the door seals and bottom rear corner of the door would hang up. That's why Countach etc. doors have that boat shape \__/ from the side. I believe most "Lambo door" conversions you actually push the door straight out from the car a few inches 'till everything clears, then it hinges straight up. Better looking than the original picture shown at the top of the thread. Those are kind of part Lambo, part McLaren, part Prosche 917 mix.
F&*K YEAH!!! I would even have a noisy hydraulic kick ass pump doing the work automatically too. People seeing it in action would expect Bobba Fett to casually get out! KEWL!
