I was checking out some Asian exotic car websites and found a picture of Lambo Murcielago on a flatbed truck, near where I used to live!

Currently I'm living in Southern California, but I used to live about a block away from where the photo is taken when I was a kid... (for those of you know where I'm talking about, it's Apkujung-dong Hyundai Apt. 75-dong, near the Koo-jung Elementary School).

Gosh I miss my old place.... It's been about 10 years...

Yeah, it's crazy how many exotics are around that area, and also near the Tower Palace.

When I was a kid (10~15 years ago), I don't remember seeing that many exotic/luxury cars, other than some Merc. Benz S-series and Volvos (which was about USD$100k in Korea at the time after some ridiculous taxes... Yes, some Volvos were over USD$100k...)

I think the reduction on import taxes on foreign cars definetly helped it exotics market. Ten years ago, import cars were up to 150% of the MSRP after the taxes and fees.

But I think the prices of exotics are still too high. A friend of my cousin just got a stock Porsche 966 Turbo, and paid over USD$260k.

I left Korea before the Tower Palaces were built. I've heard that the underground garage there is like an auto-show (Ferraris, Lambos, Porsches, etc.)... I gotta go check that out sometime.

you should check out the hyundai i-park luxury apartments, they have replaced tower palace as the most expensive high - rise in korea, ( plus tower palace has been going through some problems due to faultly construction and what not)....but ive seen the lobby of tower palace its crazy...

but back to the cars.... in addition to the lower of taxes... the one big factor is that there is a huge used import car market in korea now, the prices which are still higher than those in the states, but still offer huge savings over buying the vehicles new in korea...

check this site out... www.bobaedream.co.kr ( it's a all in one auto site, with forums and a feature which is similar to autotrader... ) you should def check out the forums on the cars you see in korea... madness... ( esp that new black SLR that just went in)

the owner of the maybach is either Lee keun-hee ( chairman of Samsung) or the chairwoman of the Shinse-kae department stores...

btw.. did you read the story last summer, when a hyundai ran into Lee Keun-hee's maybach at the Coex mall.... they say that Lee let the other go without paying or pressing charges....

    haha.

There are several 57s and 62s in Korea (other than their cars). Yeah, Chr. Lee's Maybach did get into an accident last year. Chr. Lee has quite a collection of exotics and classics in Korea and around the world (some in UK), including a Ferrari 250GTO. He truly is a car-nut (in a good way). I think he should open an automotive museum in Korea with all his cars.
