After seeing and realizing what the Ferrari marque has become, I think I have been converted over to the darkside.

I can no longer stand the whoring out of the Ferrari name. Everything from pens to amusment parks are having the name Ferrari printed on them. Even though Lambo has been bought by Audi..they have managed to keep the bad boy of the exotuic market well in hand. The G-car is by all means lambo's 360, but it still maintains the lambo rough and tough image.

I have found myself more and more looking at Lambos on e-bay, and seeking out the cars that are for sale. I guess Lambo is more like what Ferrari used to be..which is what I love. Yes they have had their stinkers..but they were true to Lambos.

Lambo is wonderful comapny with a great but turbulant history. Yes they have the rep of being a bit of a poser type of car..but I think ferrari has taken this rep over. I still love the old school F-cars..and that will never change. But right now as things are unfolding with Ferrari as a comany, with the intro of the 612 and now the replacment of the 575..its getting to be a little hard to take.

I Totally agree with you Tom. Good Luck on your Search of a Lamborghini. Are you currently looking for a Lamborghini or just thinking about if for the future?

Actively looking for a Diablo. Now that I can bring them into Canada (91-92) I'm hoping to find one for a good price that needs some work.

Driving a Diablo will bring back memories of a time when Ferrari was not meant to please everybody; no room for golf clubs, shifting is not that easy, and the thrum of the engine almost under your butt will let you know when the car is working harder.
After a pair of 550s, I couldn't see a 575 and the newest one looks like it has more of the things I'm against- more size, more weight, probably more comfort, at the cost of being disconnected. Now granted, when you are hammering these cars at serious speeds, they tighten up and sing and the ease with which you can drive the current 12 cyl. Ferrari makes it worthwhile. But, at slightly more modest speed, I found the steering to be over-assisted, and the car to feel somewhat detached from the road- quiet, comfy, lux. (Not bad attributes for a GT, but a little too insulated for a hard-on sports car).
The Diablo is big, even bigger, but way more exotic to drive. Low, fairly tight cockpit, steering and handling terrific, particularly given the size of the car- I think the AWD is vital for that reason. The engine does not take second place to the Ferrari by any means, and the motor compartment (on the 6.0 anyway) is itself a joy to behold- it looks all business in a very traditional way.
It does not have the practicality of the 550-et seq. series- it is low to the ground, no fun to park, and you'd probably be reluctant to leave it out of sight. Some have claimed that Ferrari hasn't made a hardcore 12 cyl. car since the Daytona. I don't know about that, but late Diablo is hardcore. (I just wish the interior of the Murcie were better looking, since the exterior design is quite handsome).

Good points. However I seriously doubt, that L will continue to be the rough and tuff (out their and wild) car. The time is also coming, for L to be typical, reserved, and boring.

Gone are the days of 40" cars on the ground, designed on a shoe-string budget, that were designed for serious enthusiasts, that gave creature comforts scant attention. We now have many crossover platforms, and cookie cutter cars.

Remember that todays buyer, is probably not an enthusiast. The buyer would not know a Jarama from a Jalpa. The typical buyer is not interested in far out wild cars. They want perfection in the design of the car, and ease of driving. That is what sells cars. ...It is now big business. L will be just like all the others in a few years.

LOL..Oh boy.. maybe I jumped the gun!!..But I must say I would be more inclined to buy that then the Ferrari red one. It looks better and the emblem on it is great! Its not as in your face as the Ferrari unit.

Whart..you points are on the money. Even though I service these cars..I still get a feeling in my stomach everytime one comes in.

Tom, welcome to "this" side - there are less people, and it's mega fun! I've had my Gallardo for two days and I LOVE it!

    Good luck with the search.

    Best.

Tom: Here is a plug for a couple of the older, exciting cars from the house of Lamborghini. I originally posted this in another forum and thought it might interest you. Good Luck!

I have a wingless Countach and find that it allows me just a little more visibilty out the back. I also think it has a special look without it. Mine is a 1990 Anniversary and I it has no "smell" other than the wonderful Italian leather that still smells great after 16 years. The car has only 3000 miles and I drive it a least once a week. I also own a 99 Diablo and the 2 cars could not be more different. The Countach is very exciting to drive with lots of drama while you are driving it. Engine sounds wonderful, handles like a go cart, and rewards drivers who can drive it well ie: shifting, steering, etc. By the comparison when you get in the Diablo it is much more "comfortable" and easyier to drive. Alsmost feels like a limo coming out of the Countach. Believe me it would not be an easy choice to choose one over the other. To have both is the ultimate answer. The Countach is a wonderful piece of automotive art. The last true Lamborghini that Ferruccio was involved in and the last car that can honestly carry his name. My Diablo is a 99 SV and in itself represents a wonderful example of the Diable heritage with the advancements that came with the later models like the SV version I own. It is also more powerful than the Countach but this does not really matter much to me. All these cars are still in demand at higher prices because true Lamborghini enthusists have recognized just how special all these older cars are.

I joined the Dark Side late last year with my Gallardo SE purchase and couldn't be happier. Doesn't mean I don't like Ferrari family (soon to be former 328GTB and Maserati GranSport owner), but I always had dreams of what a Lambo would be like for many, many years and after driving my SE with all its improvements it met all my expectations and more.

As it stands right now, my next car after the SE will be another Lambo, either the spider or Miura if they build it. You don't just have to deal with all the crap Ferrari comes along with, many first time Lambo owners feel exactly the same way hence the jump ship. These are terrific cars that can be had at a terrific price. Why they are overlooked is beyond me, but right now it feels great to be the underdog with a car that still beats the mighty F430 around Nurburgring and Hockenheimring.

Is "all the crap" about the selling out of the Ferrari name? Image?

I don't know that Lambo's are more of a bargain when it comes to maintenance/repair. (How much does a Countach clutch job cost?)

While certainly I don't like Ferrari selling trinkets with their logo on it, in the end I really don't care, it certainly wouldn't stop me from buying one. I have a 328GTB 1989 in my garage as we speak, although its being sold to someone in the next few days. I had it for 6 years or so and loved it. To me the Ferrari crap is buy one to get one type of thing, the cars are still great, but to call a Lambo dealer express interest, order a car and have it in your garage a few months later is better to me. Expenses are big no matter what the brand. I guess the state of how Ferrari dealers do business drew me to Lambo and after I experienced the dealer, in this case Nelson Lambo, I wonder why I didn't try the brand earlier, its a great product (and was a great dealer to work with). I guess I was blinded by the Ferrari spell, not anymore though.
