My son and I have been watching youtube vids of all kinds of exotic cars. But there are several videos featuring Murcielagos with straight pipes and I must say the sound is intoxicating. Why do Lambo Murci V12s sound so much better than other v12s? Is it the fact that all the pipes exit in a single large exhaust outlet? It seems that Murcis with the factory muffler have that F1 shrill...and with straight pipes it's must more of it. I know that my question is sort of emotion-based, but I really want to know how I could get a similar sound from my flat-12. I've asked similar questions to the point of nausea....but I just keep getting drawn in by that sound - and I WANT it. There are a couple of exhaust systems that get close to that sound, Kreissieg is one but it sounds to....artificial if that makes sense. There is a guy over in Europe that has a similar sound for the flat-12, but it's a one-off custom system. If I could bolt up a Murci system to the flat-12...would the sound be similar? I realize the older flat-12 isn't near as powerful as the Murci. And I'm sure that would have some affect....if anyone can expound some words of wisdom I would appreciate it. Thank You Lambo Guys.

Jeff, I own both a Testaossa and a Diablo. I have actually owned 4 TR's with all different types of performance exhaust and not one of them even comes close to the sound of the Lambo. It has to be the cylinder configuration. I would suggest just buying a V12 Lambo, It IS intoxicating !

It's a combination of variables that would be pretty hard to duplicate on a Ferrari.

Be happy with what you have, it could be a lot worse. :)

The same reason a Chevy small block V8 sounds different than a Ford small block V8.
I think a lot of it has to do with combustion chamber design, exhaust port shape, header and exhaust design. Don't forget about different compression ratios, that also makes a difference.

I am wondering if Firing Order might affect the sound as well, depending on crankshaft configuration.
