So I got to see a Lamborghini Aventador at Concorso on Friday and it is a spectacular looking car, but IMO it has to be the worst sounding car made. Because of the sound restrictions it sounds like a bull farting with a whooosh at the end. Even Jay Leno spent 4 painful minutes on the podium trying to explain why it sounds the way it does. His explanation made no sense and I think it had half the crowd wondering why Lamborghini would allow the car to be produced sounding like this. The other half didn't want to admit the king was naked.

They didn't drive it by at speed, so there is still hope it sounds good on the open road, but if you want to rev your engine at a stop light forget it, a Fiat sounds better.

Hello Lamborghini we are with the government, we are here to help...

Nothing that a good Larini or Bartolli or Tubi aftermarket exhaust cannot fix! LOL!

I am not sure but I read somewhere that the optional factory sport exhaust available in Europe is not available for US customers - shame. And that the huge muffler has the secondary cats incorporated into it! May explain the sound issues...

I understand the new McLaren sounds like a Porsche 911 or something. So I guess that's where things are at.

fwiw, my 2009 vette has actuators that open up the exhaust (when pedal is hammered) and it sounds GREAT! Like the big-block chevy it is.

Can't Lamborghini do something like that?

The Murcialago's that I have heard sound great.

For what it is worth, I think they look better too.

Yes, I understand the Aventador does have valve actuators that open when revved. My Murci had a Larini exhaust and I had the valves permanently set on bypass. It sounded awesome at revs over 4,000!

458 sound is proof that a stock setup can be good and meets noise restrictions.

Aftermarket setup will be required on the Lambo. Unfortunately, it's harder to get good sound with newer models.

that's disappointing to know. but the Euro cars Evo and other rags drove sounded amazing. US regs really choking that engine, power and sound wise. we all know that Lambo 60 degree V12's can sound amazing. the Lp-640's with MS Racing exhausts sound more F-1 V12 like than ANY Ferrari. Enzo included. i'm sure MS will have a similar solution for the Avent. and like the Murcie system, it will weigh nearly 90lbs (!!!) less than the stock setup.

Reminds me of something funny, had a chat the other day with a friend who's also a car nut...got around to talking about how car mag's ALWAYS say roadgoing Ferrari's "sound's F1 like". every article, when talking about the engines, it's always "F1 like"/ kinda funny that the 'Tractor Builder' company actually has a much closer, by far, approximation of 90's era F1 V12 sound: the Murcie R-GT and the new Lp-670 R-SV are dead ringer's. I want my race internals engined, 800+ hp, 10,000rpm Avent to sound like this (but maybe with a tad less db's :)

dang straight! :) Lambo has some amazing sounding cars---particularly the V12's, but they never get the 'love' from the press. kinda ironic that a car company without any F1 or very little racing pedigree actually has the much racier engine noises vs Ferrari, Mclaren, etc...
