Lamborghini LP 560-4 in a drag race against a Ferrari 458 Italia on an airport runway during Bullfest Fall 2010. They did five runs with the Lambo taking two. Video has two solo warm-up runs and the five race runs. Three were filmed from outside and two from the inside of the 458. All the runs are in their original order. Both cars were pretty closely matched. It was an epic day with 35 Lambos, a 100-mile rally, meet, helicopters, airplanes, drag races, a wedding, sky divers and more. The 458 vs. 560 race was impromptu and infected all of us shortly after. Clutches paid the price that day but grins were from ear-to-ear. Video of the other runs is coming soon.

How long was that runaway? The Lambo AWD will be an advantage in such a short runaway.

On the in-car shots the 458 driver is in automatic mode. For some reason I lost interest when I saw that. Show me again the video of the girl working the gears in a 308.

You put this in three places here and none of them are the 458 Italia section...

The Lambo needs a new clutch. The 458's wet clutch just took it as another day in the park.

I'm not sure why the Ferrari isn't using LC.

Is LC available now in the USA as I heard there is no guarantee from Ferrari if the clutch goes. Hence the US is one country opting out of the system.

Does anyone know hoe the launch control works? Is it user friendly?
    My 328 has LC.
in my car the ECM limits boost and timing at pre-set rpms in first gear(or whatever gears)
The best part is that it is user friendly and adjustable.
There is no on/off switch though. It is either tuned in, or it isn't.
As of now mine is not set. At this point, I'd rather have the appropriate tire and no LC

At this short distance, there really is no clear winner.
I'm sure in the quarter these runs would be different as the more powerful car would have the room to catch up on a not so good launch.

The problem with 500+hp is having enough road to lay all that power down.
A couple of guys in some killer turbo Porcshes learned that this weekend testing against my lil 328.
They could out power me but could not pull away when ahead. And on more challenging roads the Ferrari was able to pass and stay ahead on most of the run. Would have loved to film it, but I was too busy driving ;)

I hope the Ferrari didn't show up the Lambo crowd too badly.
Looks like a really cool event made even better with the use of some track to test the cars.
None of the Murci's wanted to get a lil revenge for the Gallardo?

    Nice vid, thx for posting

The Lambo isn't Italian. It is a German that had an anchor baby. ;)

When i go to the lambo factory, which is very much every year i am in Modena ITALY. Not Germany.
And FYI without German technology in our modern ferraris, our cars would be even more troublesome.

Yes, but most of the parts come from GERMANY, not that there is anything wrong with that.

I forget the exact length of the runway but you also had to be careful as there was a lot of gravel and dirt on it and everyone was playing it safe.

The owner of the 458 was using PS (performance start) and launch control.

Shortly after this race, we all headed out and started doing solo and race runs, myself included with my Nera. However, after already doing five runs and only having the 458 for a few weeks he wasn't eager to completely wipe out the clutch too soon so there were no more 458 races. Also, this came at the end of a 100-mile rally and for some who drove from DC they had already put 325+ miles in at this point.

The 458 owner was actually supposed to bring his twin turbo Gallardo but it was having some difficulty so he brought his 458 to play instead. It truly was an amazing event that Hovik had put together. Great people and great cars.

More videos of the other runs, etc. will be coming soon.

I'd have to disagree with you...The 560 is mine, and with over 16,000 miles, three nights at the dragstrip, and quite a few launches on the street...The clutch snap (that's where you can view the clutch thickness/wear via a software scan) shows only about 15% of the clutch has been used so far.

Alot of it has to do with the new Bosch electronics that control the E-gear (F1) system; It really helps control wear, where as the older (04-08's) were not as durable.

I am curious to see how well the new Ferrari wet clutch setup holds up...Many say it should 'never need a clutch replacement'...I'd sure like to believe that...But only time/mileage will tell the truth.

As far as launch mode, the owner of the Ferrari said

    - For the record I had the car in race mode with traction control and stability control on. I used the "performance start" mode. You hold the brake with your left foot, press the PS button on the center console, floor the accelerator, and release the brake to launch. -

I didn't use 'launch mode' on my 560, since all it seems to do is spin the tires when I do that...As evidenced by this video...

So I just mashed the gas when Mel dropped her hands.

It was alot of fun, and the 458 is a fast, fast car. Sounds great, too. It was a really fun day.
