Lamborghini still yet to set their programs for 2025. Issues, issues... https://racer.com/2024/10/30/lamborghini-the-biggest-unknown-in-2025-gtp-hypercar-picture/ BHW View attachment 3758707
half assed effort from the start, won't be surprised to see them be the first manufacturer to ditch Hypercar maybe shift the program to IMSA? although they didn't do well there either
Haven't they committed to the IMSA endurance rounds already? I can't see them staying in WEC next season with the 2 car requirement. Hopefully they stay in IMSA and develop the car. Destroying one of the prototypes in testing didn't help them at all.
correct on IMSA endurance rounds maybe they can expand to the full IMSA season? they have a shop in the USA
The firing of program manager Giorgio Sanna in February evidently didn't help matters. According to my source, "Nobody was able to continue and every day (got) worse". So, it seems there was some animus in the team and then complaints about budget this, budget that, etc. From my research on articles I wrote about the program before the start of 2024 for the International Lamborghini Registry, the SC63 was based on solid engineering ground. I was away in hospital a bit during this span but was aware the first test car was written off which set back development. In the races, the strategy was to play conservative, stay in touch with the lead pack and stay out of trouble. This worked at Sebring and Le Mans to good effect and some decent results. The highlight of the year had to be Grosjean's pass of the Porsche for the lead at Indy in wet conditions where the car seemed quite at home. This had to be very encouraging. Hearing two distinctly different versions about 2025 however. Sounds as though it will be decided in a board room and we all know how that goes. When things go good, everyone is a General. When things go sideways, everyone is a Private. BHW
Looks like Lambo is out of WEC in Hypercar and GT3. https://www.dailysportscar.com/2024/11/06/lamborghini-to-exit-fia-wec.html
I see that as a consequence of the new WEC rules imposing 2-car team in Hypercars, and only securing GT3 entries as long as they are supported by LMH participation. Now that it has so many constructors interested, the ACO wants to micro-manage the championship by thoughening the rules, It looks like Lamborghini can only offer one Hypercar to Iron Lynx next year, and that won't do. Iron Lynx' participation in the WEC is in jeopardy because of it, so they have to split with Lambo.
Yeah I hate the direction they have gone with all this...especially the GT3 part. Teams should be free to enter whatever car they want that meets the ruleset. Thats kinda the beauty of GT3 is that there are so many different options. But I also get it, they have way more demand than they can accommodate so I get they have to narrow it down somehow.
Pity about WEC but they've been complaining about budgets from the onset. Then the firing of Girogio Sanna in February and writing off a chassis early in testing at Paul Ricard. At least there's the IMSA option which is good for us here but takes a bit of shine off of Le Mans. https://racer.com/2024/11/06/lamborghini-looking-to-end-fia-wec-program-ahead-of-the-2025-season/ BHW
the original thought was to prevent a GT3 grid of nothing but Porsches, but it turned into "spend $100m on WEC or go home" and looks like Lambo is choosing to go home. which is a shame I hope they can continue in IMSA. Lambo/Ferrari/Aston/Porsche in prototypes is a great draw.
I think the 2 car Hypercar mandate was a mistake on their end. Not like they were hurting for entries in the first place. Have they said when the Aston will debut in IMSA next year? Need to start planning for Daytona and I am really hoping it will be there.
that is probably correct of the major 24 hour races Daytona is like bumper cars with the number of cars per track length and big braking zones Spa and Nurburgring are rollercoasters Le Mans is long and mostly flat, but does has some great sections (Dunlop curves, Porsche curves, Indianapolis, etc)
The main advantage of Daytona is that one can see the whole circuit. You cannot do that at Le Mans, Spa or the Nordscheiffe.
I hate that they did that. I also hate that they haven't figured out a way to allow spectators over there.
I miss the Budweiser party porch (or whatever they called it) in the now torn down backstretch grandstands. almost perfectly aligned with the braking zone for the chicane.
