No, and I doubt it. I know there's reports Lamborghini plans to use less Audi-tech. in their upcoming models, but I doubt VAG is going to let them go just yet, not with the company actually turning out profits from Gallardo.

Lamborghini continues to do something it was incapable of doing in the past – remain profitable. Under the ownership of Audi, the brand has gone from strength to strength and last year sold just over 2000 cars. Figures for the first half of this year have just been announced and it’s more good news. Car sales have gone up to 1343 units, with the majority of them being the new Gallardo Spyder. The recently released LP640 also did well, doubling sales of the Murcielago over last year, and early results for the new Superleggera coupe are also promising.

Revenues were €222m (US$304m) and these turned a profit of €18.1m (US$25m) for the Sant’Agata Bolognese company. All up, Lamborghini should be able to surpass 2500 cars sold this year, and even though this is less than half of what the Ferrari boys across town do, it’s still very impressive for a company that has been on the brink of bankruptcy for most of its life.

Usually we’re not ones to pay much attention to financial issues here at Motor Authority but healthy sales and profits mean more supercars and wild designs. Look out for our review of the Gallardo Superleggera tomorrow.

Porsche did say they didnt want to have too many toys in their basket..

I wonder if Lambo will remain profitable when they have to invest in a truly new V12 supercar ? Werent they coming up with a SUV ?

Last I heard, Lamborghini's CEO (I always forget his name at these times) announced their plans for a new Espada and LM002 would not go through. I know they already have plans for the next big V12 supercar in the works, though.

As for Porsche, I heard they owned 30% of VAG, but I thought that didn't mean they had full authority over the companies that are owned by VAG.

Dieing? I think that Audi "Cancer" is more of a miracle. Without it, I'm pretty sure Lamborghini would really be near death.

I couldn't agree with you more..Without Audi's involvement Lamborghini would have never stopped the bleeding.

Oh yeah -- like 'em or not, Audi has turned the company around. One of the few companies that could have solved the many Lambo problems, for a number of reasons.

Toyota is THE best auto manufacturer bar none.

Toyota is an automobile company with the highest profit margin and its stock price has been steadily going north the past couple of years. (for once Warren Buffet is wrong, since he always dislike car manufacturer stocks), it is also the biggest car company in the world currently. Compare that to GM, Ford or Chevy (in terms of product quality and management) I think it is not apple to apple comparison.

If Toyota bought Lambo I think it would be really good. They have begun in F1 and my gut feeling says they want to venture in obtaining a supercar company. Don't forget, most Japanese are Lambo fans (more than Ferrari fans). I certainly don't mind if they built a Murci that can last 200,000 kms.

Lexus quality build in a Lambo? Now that would be my dream car ... err ... make that dream supercar

The Toyota acquisition of Lamborghini is a possibility. Im not prepared to upgrade that to 'probability' yet. At the momemnt in all candor its pure speculation. Would it be good if it happened? Lets go one step at a time....

Sorry, GM is still # 1 in terms of sales, however Toyota did past them for the first time in a quarterly sales segment. But it will not overtake GM for overall annual sales, maybe in the next year or two. For now GM is still # 1 and Toyota is # 2.

    >>Toyota Motor Corp., which outpaced General Motors Corp. in global vehicle sales in the first half of the year for the first time ever...<<

    http://www.detnews.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20070723/UPDATE/707230395/1148/rss25

I learned a long time ago about Toyota quality, which GM has never had. My 1984 supra has over 300k miles and absolutely no ridge at all on the top of the cylinders. Our Lexus is pretty close to flawless -- I'm sure the best car out there, certainly all the reports point to that fact.

It's these two cars that have given me the time to work on my Lamborghini :-D

Which is also pretty darned cool, but for another reason.

I think Toyota would do great with Lambo if that rumor ever went anywhere. But I'm just not into the new lambos (or the new anything for that matter), so don't count my vote either way.

The main thing is to keep Lamborghini going in the direction of supercar quality. Toyota could do that.

    Cheers,

    Fred

One truly good thing would happen - resale values of pre-Toyota Lambos would skyrocket. You know, the older bulls that still had soul before the Japanese made them good on paper yet boring to drive :)

The cost of maintenance is one thing keeping most Lambos (and Ferraris) from eventually ending up in the hands of ricers.

I can't wait to see if it is true..."the all new TRD-ghini"....even though it says TRD (Toyota Racing Development)....It always makes me think of the word TURD...and there's never a good word association game you can play with that !!! LOL LOL...would be interesting to see...they are very qualified in the racing circuit...interesting to see how it plays out.

I laugh when people talk about Toyotas reliability cause its B.S I had a tundra which only had 124k miles on it and that was the worst vehicle I have ever owned. I can just imange with Toyota at the wheel, parts will be more expensive for future lamborghinis, it would be more difficult to work on as well. The only great thing that might out of this would be an affordable lambo.

Personally I hope this is all BS id rather have lamborghini owned by GM, atleast I know they will do just fine under there roof. But if Toyota gets lambo, hopefully only lexus gets involved with there products.
