Lance just confessed. Good for him, now I hope he pays everyone he lied to and attacked 10x.
He's a scumbag and should be treated the same as the baseball players who doped. They are totally ostracized now.
His interview with Opra airs Thursday night around 8 EST. Everyone suspected he might use it to confess ala Tiger and his "team" were feeling the waters the last week how a confession would go. The actual interview was today and it has been leaked that he actually did confess. http://www.dallasnews.com/sports/more-sports/headlines/20130114-ap-source-lance-armstrong-confesses-to-oprah-winfrey-he-used-performance-enhancing-drugs.ece
so he's going to get his ass sued off from every sponsor, sanctioning body, doctor, trainer, etc right? I thought Oprah was off the air? or is she coming out of retirement for this
Most guys who ride would give a TESTICLE to win/place in the TDF legit without doping.... Lance gave TWO. What ****** (all he has left I guess) Jedi
While I don't condone it, I hope the general disdain goes for essentially the entire peloton. No one could have won in that era without doping, and I don't see singling out Lance as an order of magnitude worse than anyone else. I am not a fan, but with the environment, stakes and lack of meaningful enforcement at the time who exactly was the hero of the time?
You should really stop and think about what you wrote there Keith..... LOL!!! I know what you MEANT to say .... but what you WROTE is pretty funny. Jedi
Now I feel like crap for holding out and giving him the benefit of the doubt...lawsuits to follow! It's going to be a feeding frenzie.
OK, but the lawsuits and threats to keep the lie going keeps Lance on par with the other cyclists? he financially and personally ruined many people!
Great article on Yahoo Sports: http://sports.yahoo.com/news/questions-oprah-should-ask-lance-armstrong-230849439.html
He became a famous and wealthy man on his doping. He enjoyed the good-life for many years. It may have been at a time when such was the norm, it does seem to be the case and I don't feel contempt for him because of the doping. I don't know what it was like in the cycling world regarding doping. What I do know is that when he was accused, he lied and denied like a common street thief, then he rallied us to his aid and manipulated our collective emotions to his support. He tried to bully all those who spoke truthfully about his doping. For all this I find it impossible to give him a pass. He doesn't deserve anyone's concern or sympathy. He disgraced himself and the nation. Time to pay the piper. The guy who came in second, if he was clean, was the guy who came in first.
If everyone cheats at a poker table, is it really poker or just a gimmick? Should the best cheater win all the pot all the time? Would you prefer to play in a gimmick or a real game?
Bingo, you got it. All sports is becoming a gimmick...... Anybody remember the cyclist that had a motor built into his frame? Ed
True, if there was a clean cyclist in the race, he was the true winner. But, how can you test everybody for everything? Cyclist are known for even doping with Viagra to enhance their performance to win a race. Ed
I don't know enough to know who he ruined. I have never heard anything flattering about him, but I don't know him personally so can't judge. I do think he will face huge legal liability but expect he will declare bankruptcy and probably squirreled away money in exempt assets, so must won't get anything back. I read much of the big report and I still think it was a vendetta, albeit supported by fact. My biggest problem is that it seems the sport was dirty and at the TDF level there were no legitimate heroes of the time. I agree the sport needs a cleaning and Lance should take the hardest fall, but he still accomplished a great deal. Is anyone saying that Armstrong was not on a level playing field with his nearest competitors at the time? And I mean going 20 or more riders deep into the peloton?
I don't understand what is to be gained by sitting down with Oprah and confessing? The damage is already done anyway. He should have just laid low until people stopped caring. I thought the same about Tiger. He should have gone back to playing golf. He still would have had plenty of sponsors once he started winning again even without any sob story.
