Here is the new brake line in place: [IMG]
This picture shows the little 'keeper' on the brake line connection. Removing and replacing this is the hardest part of the procedure. Its too tight to take off and replace by hand, and its difficult to get any tools up there.
You should have parked it right in between the two. When I had mine, I would get asked all the time if it was a Ferrari (or Maserati, Lamborghini, etc.).
Do you guys have lowered springs on your car? Mine sits way high and the car rides like a floating sofa. Was contemplating on getting the MTH red performance springs but looks as though it only lowers the car by 25mm or 1"... hardly seem like enough. julian - Consider a coil's beginnings - as a metal rod. The rod itself remains the same length after it is coiled. When a coil is cut, the rod becomes shorter, thereby affecting the spring rate, to the detriment of handling and comfort.
Cutting it would make it stiffer as Wax pointed out, but this could be an improvement over the original condition (in addition to the lowered height). There could be issues with the cut end not seating correctly. Better solution is to contact http://www.montehospital.com/. I got my springs from them and the change in appearance is just what I was looking for. Mine was so jacked up in the front with the original USA springs the front camber was slightly positive.
Here is my Scorpion in 1985 with the original springs: Here is the car in 2009 after I fitted the lower euro-style springs from http://www.montehospital.com/
I swapped Montecarlo springs into my red Scorpion. My yellow one had cut springs. Get the Montecarlo springs.
So I just get the red performance springs and leave the shocks alone? Please advise before I place an order with them
Here we go again. I think we might find a buyer this time around. Thanks for all of the P.M.s This car is a real nice one.. Jeff http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&item=290333316936
it depends.... if your shocks are original (30 plus years) they will most likely benefit from newer units regardless of springs i had 3 sets of springs on my scorps... 2 custom sets and a cut stock set. i didnt care for the cut stock ones. i ran with koni reds on your ride height.... usa spec cars where higher in front giving the car an awkward rake. in addition, the rolling diameter of your tires with the bigger wheels look a lot taller than the original 13 scorp or 14 inch MC cars? 1inch lower springs may not get u back to the stock euro height in front with your big tires. i can never understand why people put huge wheels and rubber band profile tires on there older cars. they dont look period correct any more. i guess people like showing off the pokers size 9 inch disc brakes? i had a mild upgrade to 195 f 205 50 15r inch which fit nicely and open up to a better selection of performance tires hf
This is a funny Lancia Picture. Kind of sums up my feelings about it now... after owning 5 of them.... Image Unavailable, Please Login
Not much activity in this thread. I wanted to share this link to a particularly flattering image of the Montecarlo. I have had this image on my computer desktop at work and get many comments from the lay-public that see it. http://www.netcarshow.com/lancia/1974-beta_montecarlo/800x600/wallpaper_02.htm
Very nice. I can't talk much about scorp right now because my car is still in the shop getting the engine rebuilt with raced rods/pistons so it can be turbo charged
Garage roof collapsed under heavy snow last month where mine was stored for winter. Roof came down to 4 inches from the double bubble hardtop and precious windshield. Car has nine lives.
Interesting how there's not a bad photo on this thread, save for the rusted out hulk in Ohio. Dave, would you happen to have a photo or two of the close call?
