Probably from habit Mr. Ferrari sat in the front seat plus entry and exist was probably easier from the front seat. For many years he had the same driver take him everywhere. After Mr Ferrari died others including Piero Ferrari asked him to be the driver for them. He politely refused all requests and was given a different job until he retired...
1988 Thema 8.32 Series 1, Dark Grey over black. She has had extensive mechanical work done including an engine out service, suspension, brakes. Initial driving experience was great. Most things work but the body is a bit tatty, something I will focus on. However I had my first setback last week, when opening the hood by the interior catch, the cable snapped. So the bonnet is in the locked down position and can't be opened by the cable. My mechanic is looking at it today, but if anybody has any tips or ideas... Thanks Graham
Hi Graham, Congratulations on the 8.32. Not easy to access the hood lock mechanism without having the car on a lift and reaching in and up from underneath. There is no reserve unlock wire that I know of. If you look from underneath you should see the two spring hooks holding the wire. The driver side hook should be pushed towards right and the right side hook pushed towards left - i.e both should be pushed towards center line of engine bay. Hope this helps.
Still like these, look at them from time to time. Had a burgundy S1 many years ago. I see Enzo didn’t have the pinstripe....
The burgundy is called Rosso Winner Metallizzato and was the most popular color. The other 4 are Nero Metallizzato,Blu Blizzard Metallizzato,Grigio Quartz Metallizzato and Verde Reflex Metallizzato. All colors bespoke for the 8.32 and all where pearlescent/mica metallics The non-pinstriped Thema Enzo is getting out of is not a 8.32.
If anybody non Italian watches it remember to activate the sub titles ! If anybody actually Italian watches it please explain the coffin/machine gun references?
Funny I just looked at these for sale last night on the computer and found 2 in the US. I love the ideal of a Lancia. But my sister had the 1975 Lancia Beta..... wow it would not stay running, left her stranded so many times, I guess I still judge them from that. Are these more likely to stay running , or do you have to tinker all the time on them. Keep a tow truck close behind . I would like to have one, and I like the Alfa GTV6 also. Just sold my Giulia quadrifoglio.... it was in the shop for 21 days... so................ uh............
Hello Patek, well, so far so good is all I can say. It's certainly a hoot to drive. The engine is, I think, pretty good and treated well should run forever. It won't be a mystery to Classic Ferrari guys and you can get the service manual. UK Ferrari "legend" Terry Hoyle looks after the mechanical side of things and has in the past re-bulit 8.32 engines. The "Thema parts "for car itself are quite hard to find, for example I had no air, cold or otherwise blowing into the cabin. So I had to source a blower motor from a breaker but the air-conditioning unit was easily rebuildable by a general car air con person. I now have ice cold air. Italian/German/Swiss and French Ebay sites are also useful, as is Google Translate ! I'm looking for a tow hook cover, so far to no avail but I will persist. In short its not like owning a 308/328 or other classic Ferrari, whereby there is a whole industry out there to help you spend your money, but if you enjoy classic car ownership its not a bad choice at all.
It sure sounds like a neat car. We are very thin in America on Lancia experts. I live about 2 hours away from a Ferrari dealer.
Hi Paul, are you still out there? If so would you mind taking me through the 8.32 door panel removal process? If keen to restore the cracked lacquer on the wood inserts and assume its necessary to take the door panel off to get the wood off?
