This looks very attractive for larger families…wonder how it drives. https://www.caranddriver.com/news/a40142203/land-rover-defender-130-revealed/ Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
No need for 3 rows personally, but I love my 110! I think they did a good job on the 130 from pictures (doesn't look awkward at all). The Defenders drive very well, slower and a bit more wind noise than the full size crossovers from BMW and Mercedes (X5/7 and GLE/S) but much cooler and still very comfortable and compliant on the road(though not Range Rover smooth). The steering quality is the biggest positive surprise to me. Pretty good feedback and feels much more natural and direct than even the 2015 X5M I had a while back. Highly recommend the new Defender so just get the size and motor you want and enjoy! Image Unavailable, Please Login
Have a 110 and it’s great. I’d swap for a 130 just to try it out though. Even my wife digs these and that’s saying something…
Good feedback and looks great! I’ve got a family of 6 so I’m going to see about trying to get one of these. I wonder how the handling is on the longer wheelbase of the 130. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
6! Yup you need a third row! Not no Mazda look alike 4 seater (sorry couldn’t resist). You won’t be able to throw it around but that longer wheelbase no doubt makes it a smoother ride. Looks like a decent price also. I’ve mentioned before on the PS thread I have a real tough time spending $200k on an SUV (and I do mean SUV and it’s intended use) or the extra 50–100k that the 707/turbos cost over the base DBX/Cayennes even though the performance difference absolutely justifies it- the 707 is one of the few cars that absolutely “WOWed”me when I first drove it. Still debating which Aston I’m gonna get when I sell my GT3 RS. That 130 is a good looking SUV and at an appropriate price point. Test drive it and let us know please! That was a good one [emoji23] I know which Aston you should get… Valhalla! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I just picked up a 130, coming from a gladiator Rubicon. We have 2 kids, just added a 2nd dog, and my mom is moving next door. We took a camping trip this fall in the Jeep and it was too tight (per my wife, and she's not one to complain) so I've been looking at 3 row SUVs. Nothing has the off road chops of the Jeep but the defender is closest. If the grand Cherokee L came in a trail hawk version I'd have probably gone that route. Found a first edition locally that was specced almost how I'd have ordered one (with off road pack) and made a deal. So far we really like it, we'll see how it does in the rough stuff. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Fwiw, the wheelbase is the same as the 110, all of the extra is in the overhang, so it should drive identically. I've never driven a 110, but I do have a series 3 109...
Thanks for the feedback! Curious how you feel it handles on the street roads and how is the power? Quality and feel of the interior? I’d like to trade in our Escalade for the 130 but wife loves the interior of the Escalade. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I'm always interested in these kind of real life reviews. I picked up a LR RR last year , first time in one and I was floored, had no idea how comfortable and solid. I spied the Defender while at a dealer but thought it would be too rugged for dd, though it did look fun... Now I'm in an Escalade V and very unpleased with the interior compared to the RR. So much so I have a feeling I won't be in it that long and will most likely go back to a LR model.
I love my 4 door 30,000 miles in 2 years with the 4 cylinder, its been bullet proof. RUMOR HAS IT THE EXTENDED TRUCK MIGHT COME AS A PICKUP? ASWELL ID BUY ITIN A SECOND! GTJOEY1314
So far it's very nice, handles really well with surprisingly good steering - that's the most surprising part so far. It has air suspension and magneride shocks so rides very nicely. For a fairly big SUV, the body control is excellent. Minimal porpoising and body roll and you don't feel the weight like you do in a tahoe or escalade or the like. Power wise it's the 395hp TT i6 model and feels more than adequate. The turbo lag is pretty minimal and it has lots of low end. Have to wait and see how it does towing as that will be the real test. I'm getting around 19mpg with extremely limited use so far, maybe burned 1/4 tank. Interior is a large step up from anything Jeep offers, except maybe the grand wagoneer, but I'll be honest that interior doesn't do much for me. This is more rugged and less flashy looking while not being spartan. This model has the extended leather so it's mostly all soft touch and very comfortable, just not glitzy at all other than the screen on the dash, which suits me fine. It's got the walnut wood which I could not care less about. It looks fine but if it wasn't part of the package I wouldn't bother. I like the screen setup in it, it's quite good. I really like how they have buttons and knobs for key things with all of the more esoteric options in the nav so it's not overly cluttered, but the important stuff isn't buried in menus and the like. I have an android and the wireless android auto works well when my phone cooperates (which is a different matter, it had issues with my Jeep as well so it's not the LR's fault). Sound system is quite good. I've run to tractor supply to get propane tanks filled but nothing more than that cargo wise. Haven't even had the whole family in it at once yet. The cargo area is laid out nicely and had room for 2 propane tanks and a couple of bottles of RV antifreeze behind the 3rd row seats with room left over, so most times the seats won't even need to be folded down. Doing so is trivial, though. I like how both center seats can fold down for lumber or skis or the like without losing more than just the two least popular seats to sit in.
I love my 110. 12K miles thus far and it's been more a satisfying than anything else I've DD'd previously.
Interesting… Escalade V is top shelf. What don’t you like about the interior? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Bob thanks so much for the detailed response, can’t wait to check one out. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
the V interior same as a platinum nothing more, maybe same across all levels. Only difference is the engine and a few badges. My '19 LR RR w 43k miles , it's interior and seating was so much more comfortable . The caddy's leather feels tough, almost vinyl like. The seats don't "welcome" you like the other cars , they almost feel like a plain jane chair. Even the adjustments don't do much help , esp the seat cushion doesn't extend which was very comfortable in previous cars. In the end , it's really a truck , not a suv which is what I'm comparing it too . Otherwise nothing wrong with it at all. And so far it is fun. I think right now LR has the best line of interiors across their model range
Ok so I went and took a look at a 130. Nice car with a Spartan interior. But my wife wants a more luxurious interior. Car sales guy suggests a Range Rover Autobiography that seats 7. Anyone have one of these ? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I test drove a 7-passenger 2023 Range Rover SE on Saturday. Fantastic car. Retains the “magic carpet ride” to some extent, although it was a bit stiffer than previous years with its 23” wheels and low sidewall. Interior of the “base” SE was first rate. I imagine the Autobiography is even more plush with the entire cabin covered in leather. The most impressive thing was the turning radius with the 4-wheel steering. The only thing I didn’t like was the turbocharged inline 6 cylinder engine. Felt a bit sluggish off the line compared to the old 5.0 liter supercharged Jaguar engine. But if you’re opting for the Autobiography, you’ll get the BMW 4.4 V8 turbo anyway. The Autobiographies are going for $50,000 over sticker right now.
You'd have to be a total idiot to pay $50k over MSRP for a RR, but there's a whole lot of idiots out there...
Some of these resellers are approaching $300k for a 7-seat 2023 Autobiography. This has got to be even more insane than paying $100k over for a G63. https://www.ebay.com/itm/266030204893
Eddie, go drive the new style range. They’re fantastic as others have mentioned. We’ve got a new defender for our house in NY and a SE range for her. Wouldn’t hesitate to buy either again. I prefer something I can kinda beat around but still drives and rides well and the defender is that tool. (Pete’s review is spot on). The range is much more plush and incredibly capable.
