As the story goes, these old ones were monsters and you couldn't beat them with a stick. Droped from helicopters, rustproof, easy to fix & drive and you could drive them anywhere. Now they are cheap as dirt and still fit.

Does anyone have a source on where to buy these in Canada or the US? I have found many in the UK but importing one wouldn't make it worth while, unless I imported a few and sold them. Anyway... here are a few pictures: I think I want a "short" wheelbase one, although the ones that seat 6-10 have their own appealing features.

Any thoughts on replacement parts, road worthyness in North America or where to buy them?

A number of larger LR dealerships will have them from time to time, as well as other 'odd' Landrovers.

I know LR Harrisburg has a few classics in stock all the time.

As for parts, sorry I can't help you there.

Their web site doesn't show any stock on them, I'll call them tomorrow and drop into my dealership.

Good luck! Land Rovers are my favorite SUVs, I am on my second RR...well I was, until my sister needed something to drive around, and has borrowed it for a while now...

Anyway, yes I would suggest calling them directly.

I was the sales manager at the LR store in Calgary for a couple of years. We actually sold a couple of these, as well as a couple of the more modern DII series over the course of the 3 years of sales I saw.

Parts for the old stuff has never been a problem IME....nor has finding qualified techs to install them.

Lots of the examples out here are ex-British Army equipment from CFB Suffield. Several lightweights...etc...nice stuff for sale. I can get you one "probably" pretty easily....PM me...and if we do a deal I'll spiff our webmaster Rob.

Fu*k it, I'll just get a new one.

Thanks for the help boys but there just isn't a selection here. And quite frankly it seems to be a lot of work owning an old one.

I appreciate the offer, would one of them be for sale? I am now thinking that if I have to spend 8-10k on an old one, why not spend another 8-10 and get an "almost new" one? Anywho it's worth a try. Thanks. Do you remember a car lot called the Toy Store? It was run by a guy named bernie. There is a '98 95k Rover for 17.5k. I have heard a few horror stories about the place, from not so reliable cars to out right smashed exotics that had some paint slaped on them. Do you have any info about them?
