That might have been my anecdote in post 14. :)

You really have to pick your battles. Cracking down on people using their business email as personal can be very tedious and time consuming, plus you (the IT person or team) usually just get perceived as being a Nazi.

We have written formal policies against it all, but it doesn't stop everyone. I'd honestly say most people who DON'T use company email for their personal do it more as "If I leave the company then I just have to change my email address" versus a "This belongs to my company, not me" kind of thing.

Ah, porn is a fun topic. Here's one from personal experience:

So we turn on porn filtering on our firewall, because we figure we probably should.

About two hours later we get an irate radiologist on the line because his internet is blocked. He needed to look at a certain breast image to reference when reading an exam, so what did he do? Fired up his browser, went to Google, searched, and is blocked because, well, images of breasts are typically thought of as porn and it was blocked. This of course affected patient care, and thus, we had to figure out how to find the right balance. Fun times.

We block all access out of the country. Sometimes a problem when updating adobe products. You'd be amazed at how much is out of country. Just one of the tools - but effective
